Why I'm a cat person

Category: Pets and Animals

OK this week is just summing it up haha. Been staying with parents 3 days. They have 2 dogs, 2 cats. The cats' version of being naughty they've actually done is: meow to go in and out of the garden, meow to be let in then hide. The dogs'  version is: growl and charge at everyone who isn't their favourite human, bark all the time, chase cats. I'm  not  counting potential naughtiness here cos as muc... » Continue Reading

Don't let people tell you who to vote for

Category: News and Politics

I'm not gonna take a position online about what way my own vote went (I already voted). But reading about this on a forum and it's a wider point. Don't feel you "have" to vote a certain way cos someone told you to. This happens on the net where the people don't know you. It also happens in families and between spouses.  It's legal to say "I think you should vote for" if you understand it's just an... » Continue Reading

Tragedy Music Video

Category: Music

I bet if they pay any attention at all to it gen z (or gen alpha which is actually same age I was when the song/video came out!!!) will just tell each other "they didn't even have youtube back then, that's why"... But no, we asked at the time too. Why on earth did people play Tragedy at their weddings? If it was a registry office do, the bride might even walk in to it playing 🙄 The video was about... » Continue Reading

Board game age

Category: Games

What gets me is how many classic board games (and crosswords) were invented in the early 20th century. I know there's other games they played way back but imagine... a world of no tv/radio/cinema/electric light and  no Scrabble or Monopoly or crossword puzzles. Either you learn chess & small talk & hard back books or you get bored fast. » Continue Reading

Music Magazines

Category: Music

Something that's changed between now and the 00s is that in the 00s, most music magazines were about multiple bands/singers. The ones aimed at the younger generation focused on top 40 & kept it easy to read & family friendly. Kids learnt about everyone in the charts, especially the top 10. The others focused on a genre. A bit of modern mixed with a bit of old. People would buy the magazine to read... » Continue Reading

Why flavouring at the table makes sense

Category: Food and Restaurants

Didn't realise til yesterday that not everyone does this & that people are so unused to it that there's people who like flavours doing without. You put a bunch of sauces on the table, plus salt and pepper. The people who don't like flavours get to eat too. This means you don't have to cook separate for your kid. It means you don't have to be ashamed if you're autistic, just skip the sauce and have... » Continue Reading

Country songs that are stories

Category: Music

Been listening to really old country & western music and what's different is the amount of third person, sometimes true & sometimes fiction and sometimes in between long stories there are. Modern (post 80s?) country I hear tends to still be 1st personal, assumed confessional music. Even if it's more "grown up" (about old married people/long term relationships) than pop.  This old style I hardly he... » Continue Reading
