Been listening to really old country & western music and what's different is the amount of third person, sometimes true & sometimes fiction and sometimes in between long stories there are.
Modern (post 80s?) country I hear tends to still be 1st personal, assumed confessional music. Even if it's more "grown up" (about old married people/long term relationships) than pop.
This old style I hardly hear in modern stuff. I like it. Of course how we view history has changed and any song written should be anti-racist etc but I hope there's still room for making this kind of tale about people who lived in the past. Cattle rustlers etc. It's fun, it's exciting, it's a break from who-loves-who.
