Music Magazines

Something that's changed between now and the 00s is that in the 00s, most music magazines were about multiple bands/singers. The ones aimed at the younger generation focused on top 40 & kept it easy to read & family friendly. Kids learnt about everyone in the charts, especially the top 10.

The others focused on a genre. A bit of modern mixed with a bit of old. People would buy the magazine to read about Willie Nelson, end up reading some about Brad Paisley too. Or the same with punk, rock, probably other genres too.

Went to Smiths recently which is the best offline place to buy mags imo. Everything was about either learning for yourself (guitar playing) or a specific singer, all recent ones from the charts. Two I liked but that's not really my point.

I miss TOTP and Smash Hits magazines. Yes, Smash Hits exists but also the same model. I miss reading about singers I never heard of through magazines or about singers I'm not into but my classmate likes just as much as I liked S Club.

Later on in my growing up, I miss finding out about rock stars past & present just cos I got a magazine about Green Day.

Yes, I know there's online ways to do that now. But those old magazines were great. Great way for smaller artists to promote themselves too. I wish they brought back doing it that way. And I wish Smiths and supermarkets stocked that.
