The FAA is cringe

Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes

Yeah, so.... Three months later. And I got my response. The FAA denied me yet again. And over such a stupid reason. I talked to the AOPA (A very cool and not cringe organization that helps pilots) and they told me that the FAA pretty much just bullies everyone and that I'm not alone in getting denied medical clearance over stupid reasons.  I'm going to be getting a letter soon with more details on... » Continue Reading

Workout log #3

Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes

Been a while since my last workout since I've been so busy! But here's my success for today:  - 13 pushups - 11 situps - 13 squats  This time, I added some weight lifting to the routine. It's not a whole lot! But it's a start. I did:  - 10 lifts per arm with 5lbs. weight  I was so tired afterwards, that I just melted into the lawn chair and spent the next couple hours just watching the planes and ... » Continue Reading

Happy World Pilots Day!

Category: Life

Today, April 26th, is considered Pilot's Day! I wish I could celebrate by flying, but, it's so hard to schedule these things. Anyways, there is a forest fire up in the mountains where my family and I like to hike. It's kinda sad, since they just had a fire last year too. All day today it's been non-stop air support flying back and forth.  I've been watching the Firehawk helicopters, the tankers, t... » Continue Reading

I'm joining Civil Air Patrol

Category: Jobs, Work, Careers

Hey - before you all go calling me a nerd...... I was always really reluctant to join, and I was especially not going to join after all the horrible stuff I read about it online. Ultimately, what I've heard is that it just depends on the squadron. It depends on the people, the stuff they do, the partnerships they have, and the aircraft they own.  This squadron is all seniors (aka, all adults) and ... » Continue Reading

THE AIRSHOW... WAS EPIC!!!

Category: Travel and Places

Oh man, oh man, oh man...! Oh, man!!! Where do I even begin!? It was just a wild day, and I am EXHAUSTED. So, it was really hot outside. We did our best, by taking umbrellas and plenty of water. I also packed my spray bottle and neck fan. The show took place at the Air Force base, which was pretty fun to go into and see all of the military personnel.  The first thing I did was go inside of a C-17!... » Continue Reading

Today did not go well.

Category: Life

I really don't want to make an overly-depressing post, so I'll just keep things brief... I showed up on time to my school today. I was really excited to fly in a Piper for the first time. The issue was... The forecast was wrong. It was extremely hot today.  Everyone was commenting on the hot weather. I tried to tough it out, but in the end, I really just couldn't. After the pre-flight check, I sat... » Continue Reading

I caught a glimpse of a T-38 Talon... and the Thunderbirds are here!

Category: Life

This morning, I was doing my usual stuff out in the backyard, feeding the cats and sweeping and all. I heard an unusually loud plane, and decided to look up. I saw a commercial plane, but it was way too far out to have made a noise that loud. And then... That's when I saw it.  Honestly, I didn't even realize what I was seeing. I saw this fast jet and thought, "Oh, hmm. Jet. A very fast jet. But th... » Continue Reading

Best day of school EVER

Category: School, College, University

Today was helicopter day! The weather was just perfect, and we got to fly without any doors. Literally just, better pray the seatbelt doesn't snap because we were a thousand feet up with no doors. It felt so fresh! Oh my god, and guess what!? There was a BLACKHAWK!!! AT!! THE AIRPORT!! And they were also doing training!  It was so much fun, I felt like I could hardly focus just watching the milita... » Continue Reading

Weird weather

Category: Life

The weather doesn't seem to know what it wants to do. The forecasts keep changing, this morning the TAF forecast was WILDLY innacurate. Apparently we were supposed to have sun, but instead, it was completely overcast with IFR conditions.  My instructor cancelled our flight today because of it, which was annoying.... But at least I still have tomorrow and Thursday. Just gotta hope the weather coope... » Continue Reading

I RODE IN A D-DAY PLANE!

Category: Life

Oh man! It was seriously just as cool as I'd expected! The plane was HUGE, and looked really awesome. Since I took my avionics headset, I was able to plug it into the comms and hear the pilots talking with ATC and amongst eachother as they controlled the plane.  This plane is a C-53, one of the planes used during D-Day to transport gliders and soldiers. It also ran a several emergency transport mi... » Continue Reading

Tomorrow, I get to ride in a warplane!

Category: Life

I am so HYPED. It is a C-53, AKA one of the planes used during D-Day. Not a replica, it's an actual plane that was restored to flight! I'm really excited to do this, as I've wanted to ride in a war plane for such a LONG time, and now I finally can, for an affordable price. There is also an air show at the local air force base next Saturday. We might go and see that. It would be so cool. It's going... » Continue Reading

I built a robot today!

Category: Life

For Christmas I got a robot assembly kit, and today I finally had enough time to use it. I was bummed about having to cancel my flight today, but I really just don't feel well. Luckily I didn't need to physically exert myself to put this little guy together. It's really fun, it runs on Scratch which I already know how to use, so I was pretty much just playing with it for an hour or so. I coded it ... » Continue Reading
