This morning, I was doing my usual stuff out in the backyard, feeding the cats and sweeping and all. I heard an unusually loud plane, and decided to look up. I saw a commercial plane, but it was way too far out to have made a noise that loud. And then... That's when I saw it.
Honestly, I didn't even realize what I was seeing. I saw this fast jet and thought, "Oh, hmm. Jet. A very fast jet. But that's also way too high up to have made the noise. Oh well." Then, after it passed, I went back to cleaning.
Well, a few minutes later, I checked my phone since I always turn FlightRadar on when I'm outside. I had a notification saying that a T-38 was in my vicinity, but by the time I checked my phone, it was already at the air force base. I got frazzled for a moment, before realizing what had just happened.
I used the playback feature to show what was going on ten minutes before, and sure enough, there it was. A distant commercial plane, followed by the T-38 going something like 345 knots right above me.
Just- wha!? I've spent so much time trying to see one of those, and now I just got to see one purely on accident. That's still not the coolest thing that happened today, though.
The planes are arriving and practicing for the big airshow this weekend... And the USAF Thunderbirds are here! I saw one on radar flying around the base. I was so badly hoping one of those F-16s would pass over my house, but no luck.
I cannot wait to see them on Sunday!
Tomorrow, I'm going to ask my instructor if he's gonna go. I'm sure some of the instructors are gonna go - there's no way you could pass up such an epic event!!
