Yeah, so.... Three months later. And I got my response. The FAA denied me yet again. And over such a stupid reason. I talked to the AOPA (A very cool and not cringe organization that helps pilots) and they told me that the FAA pretty much just bullies everyone and that I'm not alone in getting denied medical clearance over stupid reasons.
I'm going to be getting a letter soon with more details on what to do next. It seems like I'll have to request a special issuance medical by filling out some super detailed charts about the very specific symptoms I have that they supposedly think are making me unable to fly.
The regional flight surgeon AND a certified aviation doctor both said there is no reason why I should have been denied. Even the AOPA representative who used to work at the FAA said they're just being nitpicky. I don't have any conditions that would make me unable to fly. The FAA is just stupidly strict for no reason.
Tons of people get denied, and every year people push to make restrictions less strict, because they're so ridiculously outdated. You barely sneeze and they come and revoke your license. (I'm not even joking about that. I'm not exaggerating at all. You could lose your license over a single, poorly-timed sneeze in a helicopter.)
Anyways, I'm not devastated or anything, just annoyed. I can still co-pilot, I can still be a part of a flight crew. I just can't be pilot-in-command and I can't solo fly. Not until I get special issuance, anyway. And that's gonna take another good six months at the pace they're going.
Well, it's a good thing there's Civil Air Patrol. I'll still be able to train and fly with them as part of a flight crew.
I've still not met a single person who has ever had a good experience with the FAA. They're worse than the DMV, and the DMV sucks.
All my homies hate the FAA.
