women and computers, and on the stereotype of tech being a male thing

Category: Web, HTML, Tech

it's very bothersome to me, as a woman, that being into computers / tech is considered a "male" interest or hobby, because there is a very extensive history between women and computers that seems to just get vastly ignored because of some male nerds now. in fact, the first ever computer programmer was a woman, the » Continue Reading

Ada Lovelace, and how the first ever computer programmer was a woman

Category: Web, HTML, Tech

the first ever computer programmer was a woman.  Ada Lovelace was just a teenager when she became infatuated with the prototype for the Difference Engine, a mechanical general-purpose computer made by Charles Babbage in the early 19th century. Maximizing this opportunity, she and Charles Babbage began to work together as close accomplices, and she soon was met with the Analytical Engine, a far mor... » Continue Reading

"Zeros + Ones : Digital Women + The New Technoculture" Sadie Plant (1997)

Category: Writing and Poetry

"Those were the days, when we were all at sea. It seems like yesterday to me. Species, sex, race, class: in those days none of this meant anything at all. No parents, no children, just ourselves, strings of inseparable sisters, warm and wet, indistinguishable one from the other, gloriously indiscriminate, promiscuous and fused. No generations. No future, no past. An endless geographic plane of mic... » Continue Reading

while in my father's storage room, i just so happened to stumble across a relic of the times--a Compaq portable computer, right from the 1980s!  i tried my best to get it working but there was no charger and when i asked my dad, he simply stated that he couldn't get it running last time he tried, with the charger ..
