Here we are, second week of March, third month into the year. I've done nothing musical except for teaching. Well I did one show on January 3, right? Thought I was going to be able to work on new music but nope. I have to stop relying on people. I still have one more album in me, that's all I want to do. Album #10, and then I can fold up my tent. Will the universe allow me that honor? I hope so. » Continue Reading
Glad it's not a leap year because this month has been dragging its ass!! So far, 2025 is not all that spectacular but the night is young, right? I just FEEL old sometimes! I will readily admit that boredom has crept in my life. Seasonal depression is still here but is always slowly fading away. But I set myself up for more gigs, thinking I would get emails and phone calls. Nope. I miss performing ... » Continue Reading
It sucks to be a good guitar player. There, I said it. If I was painfully average, I would be happy with writing simple stuff. Nothing wrong with that, but even when I think something sounds simple in my hands, it's not. Too much passion can break a heart. I lost the passion for two years due to the failure of my last cd as well as being treated like garbage in the studio. There, I said that too... » Continue Reading
January was a strange month, wasn't it? Felt like the longest Monday ever. But now we're two days into February, and apparently we're having six more weeks of winter. As if the previous six weeks weren't enough. This year looked like it started off good for me, with a gig right out of the starting gate. And then nothing. If I was a drummer, bassist, or singer, I would get more gigs. Guitarists are... » Continue Reading
So where did social media take such a drastic turn downward? I won't go too into detail but safe to say that social media has been a largely negative, hateful environment for the past 15 years or so, give or take. I'm not here to be doom-and-gloom, but it's been weighing on my mind for a while now. Those of us who are old enough to remember the good ol' days of MySpace, it was fun, new, exciting a... » Continue Reading
"So how was it?" The unexpected first gig of 2025 was a success for sure!! On New Years Eve, I received a Facebook message from Supernova singer Mike McCormick, asking me if I was free for a gig on Friday January 3 at Black River Barn. Oh I was!!! With the car loaded up, I was off to perform with the band and that's how my 2025 began... Usually the place is CRAMMED with people, but this was pretty... » Continue Reading
With this year coming to a close, instead of airing my grievances (there are plenty), I shall channel my energies into the positives. See how many you can recall: 1) I played a bowling alley, a golf course, and a farm with a corn maze. Maybe next will be a ski slope. 2) Bought not one but TWO used (but new to me) 7-strings. I have never ever bought two guitars in the same year. But I purchased two... » Continue Reading
Here's a link to a blog I typed last night: WHO AM I, REALLY? Short version: I've come to terms with myself as a guitar player. I hope you read and subscribe to my blogs! » Continue Reading
I played more shows this year than in years gone by. While that's not a big deal to some, it is to me. Why? Because for starters, being a quirky guitar player has its drawbacks. No, I am not original or super-unique, but I definitely kick serious ass and bring my A-game tenfold. So maybe that's a plus after all. Last night was the gig with Rock Hard at Adam's Beer Garden in Rockaway, NJ. The night... » Continue Reading
Here's the Reader Digest condensed version of my weekend. I'm already tired next week. Played my last show with Supernova (for a while at least) on Nov 9 at Mason Street Grille in Lake Hopatcong. Finding the place was a challenge. Guess they really want people to work hard, huh? Was a fun show, great crowd, but the singer and I both shared a common bond: we lost our voices! Well, I can't sing but... » Continue Reading
My calendar for November is filling up...and the month isn't even here yet!! Played two shows with Supernova last weekend and both were GREAT! First was at Lentini Farms in Newton, NJ. Beautiful view, nice stage, and I played near a corn maze. HUH?! Well it is a farm! Not a lot of people but those who were there dug the music and chat with us. A friend from high school popped in, which was a nice ... » Continue Reading
This past Friday, Supernova played a gig at Mrs. Riley's Public House in High Bridge, NJ. Was a cool place, small stage, good crowd...interesting people when you go west in New Jersey though!!! Suddenly I look average. Aside from a few hiccups early on, the band sounded really good, played a LOT of songs, more than the last gig if I can recall. Threw in some more Beatles, CCR, John Cougar, and Foo... » Continue Reading
