I played more shows this year than in years gone by. While that's not a big deal to some, it is to me. Why? Because for starters, being a quirky guitar player has its drawbacks. No, I am not original or super-unique, but I definitely kick serious ass and bring my A-game tenfold.
So maybe that's a plus after all.
Last night was the gig with Rock Hard at Adam's Beer Garden in Rockaway, NJ. The night started off slow, and then POW a bunch of people showed up. This was Morris Hills High School's 40th reunion, and this was their after party. They enjoyed our renditions of songs by AC/DC, Twisted Sister, Pat Benatar (not on the list!) and whatnot. I really enjoy playing with Alana, Tom, and James. We all get along well, and it shows on stage.
But I'm kinda shot now.
This year started with me playing a gig with Supernova at Sparta Lanes and that was a hell of a lot of fun!!! Then four shows between June and July with Evolution, and then five more shows with Supernova between October and November. Interesting places, cool vibes, patrons looking at me like "This guy is from Mars", so I did my job right.
Oh and I did some gig with Living Colour in NYC last Sunday ;) That was the highest peak for me, so I can finally relax and enjoy playing guitar again. Which is what I've been doing for a while now. No more pressure to feel like I have to be this guitar god. I never shied away from saying that; it's something that I really aspired to be. I came close though, so it was better than not being close at all.
No more shows for the rest of the year, and that's okay with me.
Time to go into hibernation.
