A thousand tiny bells

Category: Writing and Poetry

Seashell crashes on seashell, the ringing of a thousand tiny bells The ringing of a thousand little dead things There’s a storm somewhere far away, I can smell it I can see the pulled cotton of the rain meeting the sea Perhaps there’s something to be said about loose ends and frayed threads And the lightning , the faraway flashing like » Continue Reading

Snippet from a moonscalded night

Category: Writing and Poetry

And I thought to myself: “We're the same,” but I said to her, “You’re fucked up, I think,” and she laughed a bit and said "I know.” She was barefoot and balanced on the curb, I with sandals, trailing behind her, listening quietly. I think I miss her, no - I think I loved that photo of her captured at midnight; I think maybe I fell in love with the sound of my own voice reflected at me, darkened th... » Continue Reading

Week 3 FRC competition

Category: Blogging

My robotics team decided to go crazy mode and schedule 2 comps back to back, so I was out waking up early again this weekend. Luckily, the venue was much closer this time, meaning I only had to wake up at like 7:30 instead of 6. I wake up at 7 on school days anyway so it really wasn't too bad. Well... hm. I wake up crazy late on weekends to catch up on sleep so I'm not looking forward to how this ... » Continue Reading

Hooded Merganser

Category: Writing and Poetry

There was spare time, so we took it. Of course I did. I've always been a bit greedy, like my mother before me. She told me often of the summers she spent hands outstretched Reaching for the longyan - a succulent refuge from the summer sun (they drop the "y" in Cantonese) until she nearly tumbled from the balcony. When she tells this story, she shakes her head, laughing,  Dark » Continue Reading

Mahjong and its consequences

Category: Games

I celebrate the holidays with my mom's side of the family, partially because of convenience (we all live within 30 mins of each other) and partially because my dad's family is insane. I've been learning mahjong for the last few months to prepare because I REALLY want to learn and finally be included with the uncles and aunts. It'll also be really good because I can play with the old folks when I v... » Continue Reading

Errand running (emphasis on running)

Category: Life

A couple days ago, I made up my mind to attend my FRC team's social, which is on Saturday. In order to go, you must bring a dessert of some sort. I'm okay at baking and would feel bad about buying something from a store, so I was thinking about making chocolate chip cookies. I feel like chocolate chip cookies are the obvious choice but I don't want to bring them exactly BECAUSE they are the obviou... » Continue Reading

Of the ocean (of absence)

Category: Writing and Poetry

The gentle bells of seashell crashing on seashell. The crunch under your feet as you pick up a fragment of a conch. The pulled cotton of rain stretching to meet the sea. The giddy anticipation of seeing lightning too far to reach you, and the scent of that same storm moving toward you. The way sand and water slip through your fingers all the same. The laughing gull, picking through the surf. » Continue Reading

Generic Anime Convention 2023

Category: Parties and Nightlife

Went out to an anime convention today with my cousin and sister! Originally I had planned to go with a couple of friends but there were some serious scheduling issues so we decided to split off... still wish we could've gone together tho :/ I spent most of my time either in the arcade area or with the vendors. Surprisingly, I only spent about $30! Much better than last year. I ended up with 3 smal... » Continue Reading

"I don't want what you have, I wanna be you!"

Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes

Lately, I've been trying to be a better person. I was never bad, exactly, just inadequate. Part of becoming better is actually putting myself out there and interacting with other people. I've been pulling up my academics and learning how to drive. I'm trying to fix my life before it becomes unfixable. I've been socially isolated for a long time, mostly by choice. I can hold a conversation and am g... » Continue Reading
