A couple days ago, I made up my mind to attend my FRC team's social, which is on Saturday. In order to go, you must bring a dessert of some sort. I'm okay at baking and would feel bad about buying something from a store, so I was thinking about making chocolate chip cookies. I feel like chocolate chip cookies are the obvious choice but I don't want to bring them exactly BECAUSE they are the obvious choice yk? Anyway I had just wrote one of my supps on my grandma's cookbook so I decided to go through it.
Unsurprisingly, a lot of labor-intensive recipes. But one thing I did find was something called "raspberry funnycake," which seems pretty straightforward, perhaps easier than normal. The most difficult part is probably making the raspberry sauce but overall it doesn't seem too bad. Anyway, the recipe calls for a specific brand of white cake mix that I have never heard of. I asked my dad and he said if it calls for a specific brand, it's probably important. Personally, I think it just calls for that brand because that's where the recipe's from, but I don't want to risk it on the off chance he's right. You guys remember that first blog post I made? My teammates are the highly achieving people I'm talking about, I CANNOT fuck up in front of them.
Yesterday after school, I picked up my sister and went shopping. We didn't find anything. I randomly see a couple friends but still no cake mix! There are, however, boxes of cornbread mix from this brand, which only serve to taunt me. We were going store to store for about an hour before my dad calls and tells me to buy the materials for dinner.
So as I'm checking out with my sister, this random guy standing behind me is giving off the weirdest vibes. He tries to strike up a conversation and I try to shut it down by saying I'm out running errands for my parents (of course with the heavy implication I AM UNDERAGE BRO LEAVE ME ALONE). He keeps talking so I just kinda smile and nod at appropriate moments. My sister shoots me a look and I shoot her one back. I pay in exact change and tell her (in Chinese ofc lol, I'm not shouting this in the middle of the store) to gtfo as fast as possible without looking suspicious.
Anyway, we make it home safely, I don't make any wrong turns, and my dad teaches me how to grill hamburgers! I accidentally touched my forearm to the edge of the grill so there's funny looking red line on it now. I nail the burgers and feel like a supreme suburban father. A grillmaster, even. Still no cake mix, and as I'm looking it up writing this post it doesn't seem to be in any local stores. Too close to the deadline to order off Amazon, so I guess I'll have to substitute or pick a new recipe.
Something something journey, something something destination.

you should perform an experiment. independent variable of cake mix and constant variable of everything else (LMAO).. i wanna see how it all turns out. is one better? maybe you could even choose three other cake mixes... one very fancy, one of the same/similar quality as the one called for, and one significantly worse... anyway, this all sounds fun ! grilling is such a nice time. n glad you got out of the weird situation, ofc
