A new giant theropod from Late Cretaceous Patagonia, Meraxes gigas.

Category: Blogging

New giant carnivorous dinosaur reveals convergent evolutionary trends in theropod arm reduction This is a very exciting discovery! We have a new large carcharodontosaurid, and it's fairly complete by carcharodontosaurid standards! It's named after the dragon from A Song of Fire and Ice. » Continue Reading

Prehistoric Planet Episode 5

Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

So sad that this is the end!!! I hope there are more seasons with the same amount of love put into them. Do 5 episodes of the Early Cretaceous. Then another 5 for the Late Jurassic. Another 5 for the Mid-Jurassic. Another 5 for the Early Jurassic. Another 5 for the Late Triassic. I don't know how this episode ranks on my list, but I'll say that this episode of the » Continue Reading

Prehistoric Planet Episode 4

Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

I can't believe we're already at the second to the last episode of Prehistoric Planet!!! We need MORE!!! Man, I wish I could stop talking about this point, but what made this episode so great is due to it being more focused on its' setting. Most of the episode was focused on North America, so seeing some of the creatures in the episode cross paths adds so much to it. » Continue Reading

Prehistoric Planet Episode 3

Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

Prehistoric Planet Episode 3 is more of the same, and that's a good thing! I'm not going to repeat my thoughts on the length of the segments since we all know the format of the show by now. I will say I'm glad the episodes do go back to places they've covered previously. That definitely helps to flesh out the ecosystem a bit and give some dinosaurs more screen time. I hope we get more of the Theri... » Continue Reading

Prehistoric Planet Episode 2

Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

Watching Prehistoric Planet episode 2, then going away to play Prehistoric Kingdom. This is the kind of life that I live now and I wouldn't have it any other way. Episode 2 is even better simply because it sorta addressed a concern that I had with episode 1. This episode feels a little bit more focused on the ecosystem and the creatures that live in it. Mongolia had the most screen time, then Sout... » Continue Reading

Dinosaur Apocalypse Documentary available to watch for free.

Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

This is the PBS documentary on the Tanis site. This site is believed to have preserved evidence of the day the asteroid hit the planet ending the rule of the non-avian dinosaur 66 million years ago. The documentary is very compelling, but hard to say if their conclusion is bullet proof. It needs to be published. Even if it's not evidence of the day of the impact, it probably preserved a day when d... » Continue Reading

Prehistoric King Open Access has launched!!!

Category: Games

I've download and played the tutorial. This game is early access, so it's expected to have issues. I had issues with downloading, tutorial, and performance. While annoying, it's expected. The early access gave me a good look at what I can expect in the future, and I'm excited. Plus, the devs have promised updates every month to add features and fixes. Despite the issues, the potential is all there... » Continue Reading

Prehistoric Planet - A worthy successor to Walking With Dinosaurs?

Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

Personally, I thought Planet Dinosaur from 2011 was quite good. While the style is different, I considered it a unofficial sequel to Walking With Dinosaurs. The biggest difference is that Planet Dinosaur was 100% CGI whereas WWD had a mix of CGI and live action. Prehistoric Planet... I don't know. It might be a mix of CGI and live action, or it could be all CGI. We don't know. CGI has gotten so go... » Continue Reading

Incredibly well preserved dinosaur leg -- with skin and everything!

Category: Blogging

This is not a joke. It's a charred leg of a Thescelosaurus found in the Tanis site. This site is believed to be preserving fossils that were killed right on the day of the meteor impact that killed the dinosaurs 66 million years ago! That claim hasn't been peer reviewed yet, so take that with a grain of salt, but we can still be amazed by the preservation of the site. There's also Triceratops skin... » Continue Reading

Another coelacanth discovery!

Category: Blogging

This is just a fascinating discovery. Though commonly called living fossil, modern coelacanth are actually not the same as their ancestors. I mean, it's hard to imagine it surviving millions of years without evolving in some ways to adapt to the changing oceans. Click to see so » Continue Reading
