the internet went downhill after 2012
Category: Web, HTML, Tech
i've been trying to word this in a bunch of ways 2012 was the last time the internet was cool and fun. i really really miss the way the internet used to be like 12-14 years ago. the absolute latest i'd ever go back and say the internet didn't majorly suck was 2012 - after that everything went downhill. nowadays it's a massive shit show of AI generated slop and garbage made for slackjawed idiots. ... » Continue Reading
stagnation of culture - wip
Category: Life
Originally this was going to be a reply to a post by a friend, but as I wrote more and more, I thought it'd be of more utility to have this online - depending on whether it actually stays here for the next 5 years or not (i speak of ephemerality in the post itself), so we shall see. > Hypercommodification if i was to go off vibes only, i think there's something to be said about b » Continue Reading

TV in my room
Category: Web, HTML, Tech
Well, it's technically not a TV but a 24" Dell LCD monitor - my friend helped me set it up in my room, on the wall above my desk. It's attached to a monitor arm connected to a bracket that's been screwed into the wall directly, which keeps it quite secure. It has a pretty good range of motion with a decent tilt as well, which I appreciate. I'm just so happy to have so much more screen real estate!... » Continue Reading
Setting up graphics drivers on an old laptop
Category: Web, HTML, Tech
so this is more of a reminder to myself in case I end up doing this again, but I was recently given a laptop by a friend and I decided to format it so it could run Debian The install went well and everything ran fine, but the graphics drivers were wonky, for some reason. The panel's native resolution is 1366 x 768, but the install kept defaulting to 1024 x 768 with no other available options. I tr... » Continue Reading

week 4 - and now for the weather
Category: Web, HTML, Tech
something a little less existential this week. i'm obsessed with the Weather Channel. as is probably pretty clear, i'm a big fan of vaporwave aesthetics and the designs and items that said aesthetics originate from, but i have a special spot in my heart for music from the weather channel. and this lead to a deep dive into the software and hardware used in weather broadcasting in the 90s. » Continue Reading

week 3 - where do we go from here?
Category: Web, HTML, Tech
where do we go from here? i mean, the internet the way it is now, that is. it just feels like a huge loss, or misstep. some ongoing digital catastrophe that seems like a snowball rolling down a hill, gathering sticks and rocks and dirt until it turns into an avalanche. after experiencing what the internet had to offer in the early early 2000s, and what it could have been (and bitterly thinking to ... » Continue Reading
week 2 - archiving (rambling notes)
Category: Web, HTML, Tech
when i first thought of talking about software on my spacehey blog, i wasn't sure whether i'd take a more detached approach and talk about stats, or just speak my mind over the things i'm passionate about - i'm leaning towards the latter right now. so let's chat about software preservation. i'm a big fan of it. for a few months last year i set aside maybe 5 or 6 days a week where i'd go through th... » Continue Reading
