After many years of trying to make a name for myself, it feels good not making the guitar my "identity" any longer. I still love to play, but no longer feel the need to impress anyone or be subject to anyone's ridicule or back-handed comments. The world do » Continue Reading
Here's a link to a blog I typed last night: WHO AM I, REALLY? Short version: I've come to terms with myself as a guitar player. I hope you read and subscribe to my blogs! » Continue Reading
I played more shows this year than in years gone by. While that's not a big deal to some, it is to me. Why? Because for starters, being a quirky guitar player has its drawbacks. No, I am not original or super-unique, but I definitely kick serious ass and bring my A-game tenfold. So maybe that's a plus after all. Last night was the gig with Rock Hard at Adam's Beer Garden in Rockaway, NJ. The night... » Continue Reading
Here's the Reader Digest condensed version of my weekend. I'm already tired next week. Played my last show with Supernova (for a while at least) on Nov 9 at Mason Street Grille in Lake Hopatcong. Finding the place was a challenge. Guess they really want people to work hard, huh? Was a fun show, great crowd, but the singer and I both shared a common bond: we lost our voices! Well, I can't sing but... » Continue Reading
My calendar for November is filling up...and the month isn't even here yet!! Played two shows with Supernova last weekend and both were GREAT! First was at Lentini Farms in Newton, NJ. Beautiful view, nice stage, and I played near a corn maze. HUH?! Well it is a farm! Not a lot of people but those who were there dug the music and chat with us. A friend from high school popped in, which was a nice ... » Continue Reading
This past Friday, Supernova played a gig at Mrs. Riley's Public House in High Bridge, NJ. Was a cool place, small stage, good crowd...interesting people when you go west in New Jersey though!!! Suddenly I look average. Aside from a few hiccups early on, the band sounded really good, played a LOT of songs, more than the last gig if I can recall. Threw in some more Beatles, CCR, John Cougar, and Foo... » Continue Reading
So the first of four shows will happen this Friday as I traverse up to Randolph, NJ to perform with Supernova. We're playing at Black River Barn, which is a cool place that ALWAYS has a nice crowd. I like crowds. Just don't like being IN them. Would rather play TO them. Got about 45-50 songs on the list so that's a lot of music. Fortunately, the songs are relatively easy but of course I play quir... » Continue Reading
After the four shows I did with the cover band Evolution, I figured there would be a nice long break since this Nov 10 gig in NYC is coming up. Get to chill out, work on TM's songs, hadn't touched them in 10 years. Nope. The bassist from the band Supernova texted me the other day and said "Our guitarist is out with shoulder surgery, so you think you can do some dates?" I like the band, they are p... » Continue Reading
Bet you read that in the French voice on SpongeBob! I know you did. Anyway, yes it's been a couple of weeks since I bestowed another blog for your eyes. So here you go... I have been going through demos that were created since last September (!) and proceeded to weed the "eh" from the "oh yeah". I even composed a couple of new tunes recently. My brain is on cruise control but at the same time, kno... » Continue Reading
It's August 1...what?! Already?!?! This has been the fastest summer that I can recall. Then again, I've been busy and having fun (and busy having fun) so there's that. After a brief run of gigs with Rock Hard and Evolution, it's time to recharge and regroup. The gigs were cool, was nice to do a bit of traveling. Lugging my gear is not something I enjoy doing much of anymore though. Still, when you... » Continue Reading
Back in September 2014, I did a short Germany tour with two music legends: Bassist TM Stevens and drummer TC Tolliver. There was no footage of any shows filmed... Or so we thought. TC sent me this link last night and I jumped out of my chair: TM Stevens Brilon Hold on...we were actually being captured on video?! Apparently so. It's short but you can hear and feel the energy swirlin » Continue Reading
