I have just left the airport, my family are flying back to Portugal

Category: Life

It was so nice to have Dad and Ari here for two nights, but I am really homesick now! I suppose there are plenty who would say Jews don't have a home to be sick about, and all that crap. This because of zealous Zionism in Israel, but there is plenty of argument to counter, and many who argue against us have no idea what they are actually arguing about! I am not working today, instead I shall go in... » Continue Reading

My father and sister fly home tomorrow morning.

Category: Life

It has been fabulous having my Dad and sister here, and I will be a little sad if not teary that they will fly home in the morning. They have an early flight, but I'm going to see them off at the airport. I am happy that it is only two weeks and I shall be going home to Portugal for Hanukah. I have so thoroughly enjoyed having them here. Today we have been in London, as Dad wanted to visit Bevis M... » Continue Reading

האם נהיה בטוחים מכל שונאי היהודים, התומכים הפלסטינים, שאפילו לא מכירים את ההיסטוריה של פלסטין? נראה. » Continue Reading

Dad insisted my sister and I have language skills

Category: Life

We were born in Portugal, so automatically we were Portuguese-speakers, for school, but at home we spoke both Ladin and Hebrew. We had private classes after school in English and French, and our aunt taught us Arabic and Spanish. I have wanted to learn German for some time, and Italian, and I have books that I study from some days, but I need to get more practice, for sure! When I was working with... » Continue Reading

Sleep, that elusive friend.....

Category: Life

Is there a special position you get into in bed, so you can fall asleep? I shared my large bed with my Dad and my sister last night, so I didn't have the room I usually do, but then I was a lot more cosy, and warm, because my Dad was cuddling me, one arm, and my sister with the other! I usually fall asleep lying on my left side, which last night meant I was close to Dad, and he had his arm around ... » Continue Reading

Que estranho parece

A lovely family meal, for my birthday

Category: Life

My Dad and my sister have come to stay, and we have just got back to my apartment after having dinner together, at a local restaurant. We were able to keep pricked ears from overhearing us by speaking in Portuguese and Ladin.  They brought me some lovely gifts from Portugal, things I miss being here in England, food items we eat at home, though I'm not sure if they are supposed to bring foods on t... » Continue Reading

My Dad is called Shai Rafael Azzam E.

Category: Life

He was thirty two when I was born, and thirty when my sister was born. He became a widower aged thirty two, losing his twenty seven years old wife after complications she experienced after birthing me.  He named me as my mother had suggested, Saadia Ana-Maryam. My Mum's middle name was Maryam. My sister also has Maryam as a middle name. He wouldn't give me to anyone else, as I was the last great e... » Continue Reading

Making our arrangements!

Category: Life

My Dad and sister will share my bed the next two nights, Dad in the middle, and each of us daughters on either side. We all wear nightwear, we all have done this before, it is difficult to find a decent hotel at such short notice, and it means we can be together the whole time. Dad always goes to bed early, but he is staying up later tonight for paternal and logistical reasons, otherwise we won't ... » Continue Reading
