Last year my mom bought me a sourdough yeast starter kit, and a few days ago I finally started my yeast colony. Today's the third day, which means I had to feed it. Sad that discarding some is necessary to keep a more mild flavor (from what I have read) and prevent mold growth. Oh well. Also, I never knew yeast had such a funky scent.
