Pokémon Y Playthrough Pt. 3

SO I played a ton of Pokémon Y today. It's been fun. I've met Lysandre so I'm going to be learning what his deal is. I'm trying to absorb the themes I get from the story. I barely remember it from when I first played it. It's been a little while for sure. I'll start by saying this guy's dialogue makes him sound like the most super villain to ever super villain.

Lysandre wants to create a beautiful world, and in fact, he would rather destroy the entire world than see it become ugly. But what does a beautiful world entail? Perfection? Isn't beauty very subjective? I'm getting some Cyrus vibes from this guy. He seems to want to mold the world into something he approves. This, of course, would involve removing everything he deems to be incompatible with his vision of beauty. Perhaps this is a commentary on the obsession with beauty in our society.

He even has a discussion with a movie star, named Diantha, asking her if she would like to remain young and beautiful forever. She told him it would be boring to play the same roles over and over. He then followed that up with saying that she owed the world her beauty. It's a very bizarre statement, and a very poignant one considering it was made towards a woman.

Also in Lumiose City, the player gets to listen to Professor Sycamore talk about how there are many different people in the world with many different views. He says it's best to be accepting and to learn to live with one another despite differences. This seems to contrast with what a "beautiful" world would be, which would be a world with everything being exactly the same.

I went by the mansion or whatever, the one where the Furfrou runs off into the garden. It's a weird place, very divided. There's a lot of people that gush over how beautiful the mansion is, how fancy it is, how powerful the owner had to have been to create it. But there's also a lot of people that mock the mansion, call it unnecessary, and view it as a symbol of selfishness. Most of the people that work there for the owner dislike the job and dislike their boss. Almost none of them are happy with him. Shauna makes a lot of negative comments about the guy too.

Frankly, I don't like the guy either. He took the PokéFlute in the first place from a person he knew to pay off a loan. This person apparently had little to nothing. It seems the two had been friends once, but the rich guy decided rich people shouldn't rub elbows with a poor person, thus ending that friendship. Even after finding his Furfrou, he's pretty dismissive. He has someone shoot off a bunch of fireworks, and you're able to enjoy a nice, sweet, quiet moment with Shauna. Unfortunately, the moment is soured when, afterward, the owner shows up and is frankly quite rude. There's just an apathetic, cold quality to his dialogue that makes me almost a little bit afraid of him.

In the end, I got the PokéFlute, had another guy awaken the Snorlax on the road with it, and then I captured said Snorlax. I was originally going to have the Snorlax on my team, but I ended up choosing another Pokémon. I named him Large Lad. He now lives in the PC. For whatever reason, the rich guy heard the PokéFlute being played and decided to let the guy hold onto it for him. Still wouldn't give it to him though. I don't understand why. The rich guy doesn't seem to play it.

There's a few interesting things to note about the mansion. The gardens have statues of Reshiram and Zekrom, the legendary Pokémon of Unova. There are also references to the king that originally built and lived in the mansion, and a terrible war that killed many people and Pokémon. I think perhaps Unova and Kalos were allies during this war. I can't imagine a nation having statues of their enemy's legendary Pokémon. Perhaps later in the story there will be themes that tie into the ones introduced in Black and White.

The moment with Shauna was also nice. I remember a lot of people actually didn't like it when the game first released because the scene is the same for girls and boys. People thought it was inappropriate. I remember writing it off as a friendly event. I didn't understand at the time why people had to make everything romantic. Now, though, I don't care if it's romantic or not. It's a nice moment between two friends. Who cares if they're both girls? What is this, the 90s? Whatever man.

I've reached the second gym. I'll be challenging it soon, but today I'm Pokémoned out. I played all day obsessively. I picked up some new friends, got their friendship levels higher, etc. Frogger evolved into a Frogadier, Poppy evolved into a Floette, Bulbapedia evolved into an Ivysaur, and I got a fire stone and evolved Montu into a Simisear. Overall, it's been a busy day! I also resurrected a fossil into an Amaura. Here's what's new:

Lysandre is such an awful twist villain that if you told me he wasn't a twist villain I would kind of believe you

He is the most twist villain of all time to be honest.

the twist is that you know he's a villain since the first time you see him
