*Continuing on the topic of race and politics*
Trump: "This has been the most divisive presidency in history! They come up with things like she just said, when they admitted the central park five pled guilty. She has to stretch back 40, 50 years ago because there's nothing to use now against me. They've destroyed the economy, she can't get away with that."Kamala: "Clearly I'm not Trump. What I offer is a new generation of leadership. Instead of always disparaging the American people. I have a plan, let's compare the plans, I have a plan for small businesses."
Trump: "She has a plan -- a plan to defund the police, take our guns, and end fracking."
*Interviewer asks about repealing Obamacare*
Trump: "Obamacare was lousy healthcare, always was. We're working on something to replace it. I inherited Obamacare, democrats wouldn't change it. I had a choice, do I save it and make it the best that it can be, or let it rot. I had an obligation, I decided to save it. But it still isn't going to be great, it's too expensive, we're looking at different plans. It will cost less and be better, until then we will keep Obamacare."
Kamala: "I need to respond. Tim Walz and I are both gun owners, so stop with the continuous lying about me taking away people's guns. (Wants to keep affordable care act, praised John McCain)"
Trump: "She made a mistake -- John McCain fought Obamacare for years. She wants everyone to be on government healthcare, where people have to wait 6 months for an operation they need."
On climate change: Kamala: "Trump has said climate change is a hoax. I invested a trillion dollars in clean energy."
Trump: "And because of that they lost 10,000 manufacturing jobs this month -- they're all leaving, building auto plants in Mexico thinking they can sell the cars into the US. I'm not gonna let that happen, we're gonna put tariffs on the cars. They get all this money from all these different countries, then we wonder why he's (Biden) loyal to these countries, this is a crooked administration and they're selling this country down the tubes."
CLOSING STATEMENTS
Kamala: "I'm focused on the future, he's focused on the past. I'm going to invest in small businesses and families. Bring down cost of living. Respect our military. Protect women's rights (abortion). I was a prosecutor, I never asked a victim their political affiliation. I only asked them if they were ok."
Trump: "Oh, she's gonna do this, she's gonna do that -- WHY HASN'T SHE DONE IT YET? She's had 3 and a half years to fix the border, she's had 3 and a half years to fix the economy, why hasn't she done it? You haven't done it, and you won't do it. You want things that the American people don't believe in. Our country is in serious decline, they're laughing at us. We don't have any idea what's going on, we have wars going on, the economy is destroyed. I rebuilt our military, she gave it away to Afghanistan. Allowing millions of people to come in and many of them are criminals. Worst president and worst vice president in the history of our country."
---------------------------------------
The post-debate commentary was pretty much lots of puffery praising Kamala, calling her the "candidate of hope" and saying she "did exactly what she needed to do". Of course they all criticized Trump, saying he "looked so angry and rambled a lot" blah blah blah. Typical and expected from ABC.
They brought Tim Walz on to ask the question Kamala refused to answer -- do they support ANY restrictions on abortion. Walz ALSO did not answer it.
Then they brought JD Vance on to ask again whether Trump would sign a "national abortion ban".... Trump already answered that question, but Vance did as well, saying "I think he thought that was an absurd question, because he's already explicitly said he doesn't support a national abortion ban. So I think he was a bit confused why they would bother asking that." Vance went on to talk about Kamala's performance at the debate, saying "it was full of platitudes, but not a lot of substance. A lot of big promises, but very little policy."
That's the end of my notes, but I'm going to add a few of my over-all thoughts here, now that it's been a few days and I've observed the aftermath of the debate as well. In my opinion, NEITHER Trump nor Kamala performed well. I agree with JD Vance in that Kamala's performance was built on grand promises and no explanation of how she will fulfill them. I will also add that Trump's performance largely focused on the same things (economy and immigration), and he didn't answer many questions directly, same as Kamala. However, he did make his best point in his closing statement -- which is "if she wanted to do all these things, why hasn't she done it yet." That's really what it all boils down to for me. It was the same playbook with Biden, "oh I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna fix that" -- Joe, you've already had almost 4 years to do that! So what were you doing the whole time??
A couple of points: Kamala ignored pretty much every rule set forth by ABC for the debate. She had demanded the mics not be muted while the other candidate was speaking, ABC told her no -- but she still tried to interrupt Trump multiple times despite having no mic. She also demanded they be allowed to have notes, ABC told her no -- but you can visibly see her holding a pen and writing multiple times during the debate. It's also under debate right now whether she was wearing earpieces, as her speech was, in general, suddenly far more coherent and understandable than it is 99.9% of the time.
I didn't mind the female moderator, she seemed pretty fair and unbiased -- however, she didn't do much of the talking. Most of it was done by the male moderator and he was undeniably biased, both in the way he asked the questions and the way he only interrupted/"fact checked" Trump. I will also say that BOTH of the moderators frequently unmuted Trump's mic to him to speak past his allotted time, which I don't agree with -- at least Kamala condensed her lies into her proper time slots LOL.
As for the days after the debate, as expected, all the leftist media is working overtime to pump out puff pieces praising Kamala's performance. They've really latched onto the fact that Taylor Swift came out and endorsed her too -- which really, I couldn't give half a shit about. They also took the whole "illegal immigrants are eating people's pets" thing and ran with it. All the articles are shit like "Kamala wiped the floor with Trump" or "Trump performance falls flat" or whatever. At the end of the day, I don't think many people who were on the fence before were swayed one way or the other. The people who are going to vote for Trump already knew they were going to before this debate, and the people who were going to vote for Kamala already knew they were going to before this debate (except Taylor Swift, apparently).
In my opinion it's also a bit weird and unfair that Trump already debated Biden and then he had to debate someone else. Like, he's already done his debate, but now suddenly that's irrelevant because Biden isn't running. Meanwhile Kamala already wants ANOTHER debate -- how many debates are we gonna have? Lmao.
Anyways, as always, let me know your thoughts/opinions on the debate down in the comments. My fingers are officially wrecked.
