Debate Notes, plus fact checks and my thoughts on them, PART 2

Part 2 of my notes on the debate, plus fact checks. If you haven't read the first part, please do so now: Debate Notes, plus fact checks and my thoughts on them, PART 1 - Dana Scully's Blog | SpaceHey As like in the first part, direct notes from the debate are in bold, my commentary and fact checks are in italic.

--------------------------------------------------------------

*The interviewer brings up Trump's claim that the 2020 election was fraudulent. He also asks him about a quote where he said he "lost by a whisker"*

Trump: "No, I never said I lost. That was sarcastic, 'oh I lost by a whisker', that was humor. We need secure borders and we need good elections. Our elections are bad, they're fraudulent, and we have illegals coming in and voting." (I didn't get a chance to write this down, but there was something Trump said along the lines of "I guess that's why Democrats are so willing to let these people in, they're hoping to get more people in that will vote for them")

*Interviewer brings up Trump's plan to prosecute the people involved in the 2020 election fraud*:

Kamala: "Trump was fired by 81 million ppl and he's having a hard time processing it. I have traveled the world, and world leaders laugh at Trump, saying he's a disgrace. You did lose that election. He doesn't have the ability to not be confused about fact. Someone with that temperament isn't suitable to be a presidential candidate."

Trump: "World leaders? Viktor Orbán, The prime minister of Hungary asked why the world is blowing up, he said "what's going on in America, what happened to America? it's because we need Trump as president. China was afraid, NK was afraid, Russia was afraid, he was the most feared and respected president." "

Israel/Hamas -- Kamala: "on Oct 7, Hamas slaughtered many innocent Israelis. Women were brutally raped and tortured. Absolutely, Israel has a right to defend itself, and how it does so matters. Innocent palestinians have also been killed. This war must end and it must end immediately. We need a ceasefire and the hostages out. I believe we must have a two state solution. I will always give Israel the support and artillery to defend itself."

Trump: "If I were president, it would've never started. Putin never would've dared to go into Ukraine. She wouldn't even meet with Netenyahu because she was "busy" -- she was at a sorority party! She hates Israel -- If she becomes president, Israel won't exist within 2 years. The Arab population won't exist, everything will blow up, Iran has 3 billion dollars because they removed my sanctions. They (Iran) had no money. They were broke. Now they're a rich nation and now they're spreading it around. And I'll get the war with Russia and Ukraine ended."

Kamala: "That's absolutely not true, I've always supported Israel, it's known that Trump is weak and wrong on foreign relations, and bows to dictators. He says Putin was "brilliant" for going into Ukraine. You're weak and wrong on national security."

^^^^Yet another misleading quote from Harris. The "brilliant" quote refers to when Trump criticized Biden's response to the war -- and he didn't even use the word brilliant. He said Putin was -smart- for taking advantage of Biden's weak administration -- he wasn't praising Putin, he was saying it was a smart move, which is pretty hard to dispute. If you had an opportunity to strike at your long-term enemy, and the only thing trying to hold you back was a weak president with no backbone, would you say taking advantage of that opportunity is a dumb move or a smart move?

“I mean, he’s taking over a country for $2 worth of sanctions. I’d say that’s pretty smart,” Trump said during a fundraiser at his Mar-a-Lago, contending that Putin wouldn’t have invaded if he were still president.
In a telephone interview with Fox News as Russia launched its invasion, Trump called the unfolding events a “very sad thing for the world and the country.” He said Biden hadn't done enough to dissuade Putin from invading.

----------------------------------------

Trump: "She's the one that's weak by allowing every nation to send their criminals into our country. Putin endorsed her, he said he hopes she wins, and I think he really meant it. Why wouldn't he? He's gotten away with so much under them. Why would Biden kill the keystone pipeline? Because they're weak."

*The interviewer asks if they think Ukraine winning the war would be in America's best interests*

Trump: "I want the war to stop, I wanna save lives. We're in for 250 million or more. Biden and you (Kamala) don't have the courage to ask Europe to do their part. They don't ask Europe for money. When I was president I told them, "you do your part, or you're out". They should be forced to equalize. I know them (Putin and Zelensky) both very well and they respect me, they don't respect Biden. I will get it settled before I even become president. I will speak to both of them and get them together and get it settled. Biden hasn't talked to anyone in 2 years. Where is he? Is he our president? Who's running the country?"

Kamala: "I think the reason Trump says the war will be over is because he'll just give it up. I met with Zelensky, I shared with him how he could defend himself. I went to poland and we supported Ukraine. If Trump was president, Putin would be sitting in kiev right now. Our allies are thankful you're no longer president. Tell the people of Pennsylvania how quickly you'd give up the war in return for favor from Putin."

Trump: "Putin would be sitting in Moscow-- quiet please-- (Kamala tried to interrupt again) he's got nuclear weapons, I think that's something a lot of people don't like to talk about. Nobody wants to talk about that. They sent her to negotiate peace, and she did -- and the war started 3 days later. She's worse than Biden, she's a horrible negotiator, as *soon* as she left, Putin started the war!"

Kamala: "You're gonna hear a buncha lies from this fella, and that's one of them. I'm a leader who shows strength."

On Afghanistan: Kamala: "I agreed with Biden's decision to pull out of Afghanistan. Trump negotiated one of the weakest deals -- he bypassed Afghan government and negotiated with the Taliban, and invited the Taliban to camp David. This.... Former president invited them there. He's demeaned members of our military."

^^^^I find her little pause before "former president" funny, because earlier she jabbed at Trump saying he is the one who demeans and name-calls LMAO^^^^
------------------------------------

Trump: "The Taliban was killing our soldiers. I got involved because they were killing our soldiers and the Afghan government wouldn't do anything about it. Abdul (Taliban leader) said to me, "why did you send me a pic of my house?" And I said "well I don't know Abdul, you're gonna have to figure that out." And after that, none of our people were killed for 18 months. We left 80 million dollars of equipment behind for the Taliban to take when they pulled us out. The agreement was terminated because we didn't do what we were supposed to do."

Race and politics: Trump: "I don't care what she is. You make a big deal out of something, I couldn't care less. I read that she (Kamala) was not black, and then suddenly I read that she *was* black. That's ok with me."

Kamala: "I think it's a tragedy that we have someone who wants to be president who has consistently attempted to use race to divide the American people. Trump started as a guy who owned land and refused to rent to black families. He took out an ad in the times calling for the execution of the central park five."

^^^^Two more old and unproven accusations that she dredged up from DECADES ago.

On the apartment rentals: In October 1973, the Civil Rights Division filed a lawsuit against Trump Management Company, Donald Trump and his father Fred Trump, alleging that African-Americans and Puerto Ricans were systematically excluded from apartments. The Trumps responded with a $100 million countersuit accusing the government of defamation.
Donald Trump denied any racial discrimination, but said his managers tried to weed out certain kinds of tenants. “What we didn’t do was rent to welfare cases, white or black," Trump wrote in a 1987 book.
The Trumps and their company entered into a consent decree settling the litigation in 1975. The agreement contained no admission of wrongdoing, but required the Trump firm to institute a series of safeguards to make sure apartments were rented without regard to race, color, religion, sex or national origin.

On the central park five:
It was 1989. The murder rate in New York had risen to 1,896 killings a year; 3,254 rapes would be reported in the five boroughs. And on April 19th, 28-year-old investment banker Trisha Meili jogged across the northern section of Central Park. There she was attacked – bludgeoned with a rock, gagged, tied and raped. She was left for dead but discovered hours later, unconscious and suffering from hypothermia and severe brain damage.

That same night, a group of more than 30 teens had entered the park from East Harlem. They engaged in a streak of random criminal acts -- hurling rocks at cars, and assaulting and mugging people who passed by. Among the group was Yusef Salaam, along with 14-year-olds Raymond Santana and Kevin Richardson, 15-year-old Antron McCray and 16-year-old Korey Wise. They would become known collectively as the Central Park Five.
The day after the rape of Meili, Trump published an ad in five newspapers demanding to bring back the death penalty -- but contrary to popular belief, he made no specific mention of the Central Park Five. His ad talked very generally about the rising crime rate, murders and rapes in New York, stating that if a criminal kills, they should in turn be executed, to deter people from committing violent acts.

Here's the link to an archive of the actual newspaper ad, so you can read it for yourself: Trump's Central Park Five ad in Newsday : Newsday LLC : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive

Part 3 coming momentarily; I figured out how to easily copy-paste the notes so it's much easier this time -- the first part took hours LOL. More thoughts, anybody? At this point in the debate I was really disappointed that neither of the moderators were fact-checking Kamala on her bullshit like they tried to do with Trump. They just gave her free reign to lie and mislead her way through. What do y'all think?
