Writing Exercises (Especially for Poetry, Lyrics and Short Stories !)

For me, at least, my favorite part of writing is exploring concepts and things, not just writing characters and world-building and whatnot. I thought I could provide you guys with some nice prompts, exercises, and whatnot to get your brain moving !

Try to make your work colorful: I'm really not sure how else to describe it, other than this: When you read your work, see if it makes you envision everything as a certain color. For this, I'd recommend using lots of common things that would remind people of this color! For example, for red you could use things like apples, blood, or hearts. For something green, mention things like spearmint, trees, or moss ! If you wanna be super cool about it, bring in concepts that remind you of these colors ! Use sadness to help describe a blue poem, or joy to help describe a yellow one.

Consume some media! : Ok, this one might sound a bit weird at first, but at least for me, listening to songs, reading a book, looking at art or watching a TV show I like really brings me ideas and whatnot for an awesome new work ! I mean, extra props if it's something experimental or especially artistic-- more vauge things like that are sure to get your wheels spinning !!!
