Poetry pt.2 :)

Boys I know

1.

I am so grateful

For my friends 

Who are boys

They talk to me about planes 

And cats

And dogs named noodle

They are quiet and they are loud

And we fight about things

But they treat me like a friend

Not an object 

And I love them for that

2.

This is a strange kind of friendship

We fight all the time

We bicker

We are known to all around us as enemies 

You lend me your notes

I still fail the quiz

I recommend you a book 

You show me what you’ve been reading 

We stare at the night sky

And for once in our lives

The kids who always talk are quiet

Dear frenemy

You mean to me the world

3.

Did you know

I’ve met the main character?

I could tell you everything

 I’ve learned about him

But all you need to know

Is that I told him a joke 

And he didn’t laugh

But he came back later 

and told a better one

And he is slowly thawing

I could cry 

When I see his face light up

Because he gets to hang out with us

The quiet boy is cracking open like a nut

4.

I’ve been to your grams house twice

She gave us hot chocolate

You told me you’ve never had it with milk

I told you about my favorite show

And you told me about your planes

We hang out sometimes

We don’t talk constantly 

But you talk fast when your with me

And wear the same coat in winter

Our friendship is like you humming in the back of class

On an airplane 

We land

The whole plane laughs when we bump up and down

A young white couple smiles

The woman bounces a baby on her leg

He’s the cutest baby at that moment

He babbles and coos

A hispanic girl in her twenties smiles at him

From beneath her thick glasses rims

A black teenage boy from across the aisle 

smiles at the baby

Between muttering

about how the line isn’t moving

His dad watches him impatiently 

Further up I hear another child crying

I feel bad for his mother

Who didn’t realize taking care

Of another human being

Would be like this sometimes

And I feel bad for the kid

Who doesn’t know 

That crying 

won’t make people listen 

in this world  

I look at these people

Would they save me if I was dying?

I look at what humanity is at its core

Thinking a baby is cute
