The Uncanny Valley between Pop Punk and Pop Rock

Here's something I've thought of a few times. You know how The Uncanny Valley Effect is that vibe something gives off when it doesn't quite look real, but doesn't quite look, for a lack of a better term, fake either. Well, I think it can be said some songs, and possibly even some bands or artists, aren't quite Pop Punk, but aren't quite traditional/"normal" Pop Rock either.

Like, one example I can think of at this instance is this LFO song, Ever Other Time.

The chord progression and the use of na-nas in the song can give a Pop Punk vibe, but the over-all feel of this songs is more like regular Pop Rock. It's definitely some kind of 2000's Pop Rock, but I not sure what weather it can definitively be grouped in the former camp or the latter.

There are more songs I can use as examples, but this is just one I thought of earlier today and can think of at this moment.

What do you think, are there any other songs you can think of that fall into this uncanny valley? Am I being pedantic in saying that Pop Punk is distinct from Pop Rock? Is this notion of an uncanny valley effect between these two genres is silly? Let me know, I'd love to here what other people think of this.
