Overclocking the beast

I finally got a quad channel kit of 16GB Ballistix DDR3 for my motherboard as i was at a disadvantage using dual channel the first go around. The 3930k, specifically the sandy bridge-e architecture can clock memory, even trashy kits like a banshee, but I think I degraded it from my extremely excessive clocks from my first set of tries.

I was able to push my 1866 MHz rated kit to 2133. I’ll try to push for 2400, but that’s likely an uphill battle, as most CPU’s from that era will tap out before that.

I think the cold air coming in was my saving grace because before I was able to push 5 ghz with 1.5v, I can now only do 4.8 ghz at 1.45v with 37.5% load line calibration, which is annoying, but these chips are cheap, so I can just get another if i blow it up.

Overall, I was not entirely happy with the clocks and performance this time around, but I was able to secure the highest score in the US for the 3930k in 3dmark 11 physics test. To push into the 15000's, id need to be pushing 5.1 ghz+, which is not exactly an easy task, even with cold air.
ill continue the endeavor with this platform, but ill possibly be either getting another 3930k or moving on to the 3960/3970x, which are supposedly better binned.
