Today things were looking up again, we're so Barack right now. I did what I needed to do and I just finished up my schedule like 2 minutes ago.
I got my writing out of the way first thing in the morning (after I watched a movie). I reviewed the movie Raging Bull and it's actually on this site. Think of it more as a draft than an actual review, I'm going to write the real thing for my tumblr tomorrow but for now it's enough. It is a contribution to my professional writing so it counts. I'm pretty proud of some of the interpretations I came up with. The reviews I write for this site aren't really structured and are more just points of interest which can later be strung together into an actual review but I still think you should give it a read if you haven't or better yet, just watch Raging Bull.
Speaking of Raging Bull, I watched it this morning and it was amazing like most Scorsese films are. I wanna do a full on Scorsese binge. Anyway Raging Bull was such a good subversion of the underdog trope, it's like Rocky's evil twin. I also started read Vagabond but I'm a really slow manga reader, I read like 2 chapters per day so I never get through manga. Either way, Vagabond seems really good so far and it looks beautiful too. Speaking of beautiful looking anime, I watched the first OVA of Gunsmith Cats which is such a fun anime. I love it so much and I can't wait to watch more.
Other than that, I spent a lot of today studying. I studied everything I could because exams are around the corner and I was just really tired but I gotta do it all again tomorrow. It's no matter, we cap on. Either way, it was a really productive study session.
After studying, I read more of The Trial and that book is unfinished. Chapter 8 straight up ends with "this chapter was unfinished" like fuck you mean it's unfinished. Jokes aside, the story of Kafka is a very tragic one because he didn't really have much faith in his writing abilities despite being one of my favorites. He even asked his friend to destroy all his writing in the case of his death but we have his works now so that didn't happen. Some speculate that The Trial is put together in the wrong order but whatever it's coherent enough and even if it isn't, that just adds to the message of the book. I never realized how much I loved these characters. The main character is so unlikable in the most likable way and I love seeing him interact with other people who clearly know more than him but he still views them as lesser than him and that's so funny to me, I was cracking up.
I didn't eat as well as I could've today but it wasn't terrible either. I had leftovers for breakfast and then I skipped lunch because it's a meal that took a while to prepare because we wanted to make it on the coals for some reason so that made it take way longer. Dinner was good though. My eating could be better but I'm not complaining.
I learnt something today in a very unexpected way, that rhymes but still. Being that I've been thinking about doing a Scorsese binge and Harvey Keitel is In a few of his movies, I watched an interview with Harvey Kietel or atleast an extract. The interviewer was really terrible but Harvey answered the questions well enough and he spoke some sense about the economic classes and art and the human experience. Just look up "Harvey kietel on the well educated"
That's all I have for today. Except of course, my nugget of advice for the day. I didn't really get a chance to write my thoughts out so this might be messy but my nugget for today, is: absorb knowledge at your own pace. Like, for instance, my debate coach is wise and I wonder how he learns so much so quickly because he's only two years older than me but you should learn at your own pace that you find comfortable. I guess that's a problem I have with education at school, they don't really accommodate different learning styles but thats a topic for another day. Try not to get so worked up about those who learn faster than you or know more than you which is easier said than done but as long as you actively try to learn even if it's at a slow pace, you're still making progress and eventually when your little stars of individual pieces of knowledge start connecting, you'll realize just how much you've learned. I've been starting to make connections between random pieces of wisdom I've collected and I feel smarter and wiser and I hope you do to because you are smart and you are wise. Anyway, see ya tomorrow, maybe I don't know.
