I know, clickbaity title, but allow me to explain myself.
I have gotten accounts on both Bluesky and Mastodon and both ended up being the exact same exhausting parts of Twitter but primarily left-leaning instead of right-leaning. They have basically the same algorithm that awards conflict- and don't get me wrong, I like dunking on crappy people as much as the next guy but I feel like a lot of it is just creating division for the sake of it. Like, making a million posts getting angrier and angrier about tech morons and internet far-crevice weirdos is just kinda wasting your energy on people who probably won't do anything for themselves or even hear you.
Honestly, I think that the only social media sites I want to use at this point are this site and Discord- everything else is just nauseating algorithmic sludge from different political viewpoints (except for Tumblr which seems far too intricate and confusing to enter as a newbie).
Am I alone in this? I feel like I legitimately have a weird opinion here but want to hear from others: is this, like, a thing you also have felt or am I just neurodivergent?

Real, honestly. All the social medias now feel like they're just trying to sell you something. Instagram is just a stream of ads now. Twitter and YouTube... Yeah, they're just selling culture war bs. I use Tumblr and I find it's the best for me, but it does take a LONG time to curate. There's ads but they're so bad that they don't really create that same manipulative feeling that Instagram and YouTube have.

Definitely. Social media created so many problems in Western society. The US Vs Them mentality that prevents people from the left and right from even being in the same room as each other, let alone talking with one another, is directly caused I believe by Facebook and Twitter and their anger-based algorithms

You hit the nail on the head with the point about trying to prevent people on the left and right from even being in the same room together. There was a time in my life (as a leftist), thanks to internet and social media radicalization from a far-too-young age, that I legitimately believed that every right-leaning person had SOMETHING wrong with them.
There is definitely a Republican xenophobic psychopath hivemind that Trump helped produce- but honestly, there's also people like Jim Carrey- to use a celebrity example- who are perfectly pleasant outwardly but just have some questionable ideas (i.e., vaccine doubt). And modern social media seems to be breeding the concept of "someone who's a good person with some problematic views/ideas" out of people's brains to replace it with "the side you identify with is good, the others are actively threatening your side by simply existing."

yeah, i totally agree! social media is kinda boring when its just peoples opinions. but i find on this site its mainly people writing vent blogs :/

I mean, they're entitled to writing their vent blogs but also I do feel like there should be a bit more... personal-ness, not personality but personal-ness, I guess, to the blog categories. There's nothing about, like, venting or whatever. If it gave a vent tag or a personal events tag and let you filter it out and scroll that, it'd probably be better- because people can definitely vent if they want, that's their personal business, but it's also, ya know, their PERSONAL business.
Or something. It's 11PM on a Monday and my sleep schedule has been screwed for months now- I might not be making any sense.
