I might come off as an old fart here - but back in my day this shit straight up did not exist.
Normally people would wait until something had actually happened on a site - something big enough that they considered it an irreconcilable slight against them - to start telling people to fuck off.
What happens when you immediately try to cut off any and all contact with anybody that you have disagreements with, regardless of how small they are? Well, you get a big site of people who talk in their own little groups about two or three topics - and they exhaust those topics pretty quickly. Then they go somewhere else where there's more people - generally speaking, in my experience, when you get the "I'm not here to interact with anybody I don't already know" crowd on a website, they're active for a week, maybe less, and then they disappear.
I'm here to meet and talk to people who share similar ideas - as long as you and I can talk about one topic, be it music, movies, the Internet as a whole - that's who I want to interact with.
I've long since stopped caring about individual's love or hate of whatever group or groups they're a part of or against - life is too damn short to get bent out of shape over that shit. Take it from me, half the time people wind up flip-flopping on that shit so much in this day and age that you'd think they're heads were on swivels, spinning madly to face anything even remotely interesting that they could base their entire personality around.
I get it, you wanna be a part of a group - there's not just fun but safety in numbers - but that doesn't mean you're barred from interacting with people who don't share your ideas or stances, it also doesn't mean you're obligated to try and change their mind or have your mind changed by them.
Find some common ground and make amends instead of digging your heels in and cutting people off before they even give you a personal reason to.
Anyways, I'd like to end this blogpost out on a high note - instead of a "DNI" list, here's an "I" list, interact with me if you like:
-ska or punk music
-old ass videogames (anything before 2007)
-digging really big holes out in the woods
-chain smoking Winston Red 100s
-never drinking fruity drinks around your homies so they don't think that you're gay
-VHS tapes, especially ones produced nowadays
-Shoop Da Whoop (it's one of my favorite memes)
-slasher movies
-sincerity in posting / never doing anything "ironically"
-the way that the Internet used to be - back when shit was just fun and interesting, and beef wasn't personal
or, fuck it - just interact with me regardless, I don't give a shit - I'm here to meet new people.

everyone loves echo chambers, I'd say that's a "nowadays" thing - but honestly we've just become more overt in recent years.

love this post! the internet is so negative nowadays. anywho, my uncle's a huge fan of ska music, in general ska's pretty big where i'm from. i don't know much about it, but it does make me feel proud of where i'm from seeing people say they like it!

Hell yeah, here in Kentucky there's not much in terms of music other than country - but we're close enough to Nashville that a lot of bands stop by when they tour. Next time Less Than Jake's in the neighborhood I'm trying to get tickets.

kudos. what happened to just talking to people? everyone needs everyone else to see everything about them... create their 'perfect' world and then freak out once it's disturbed . cheers buddy
