Ok, so this dream was essentially just the details of a season of Dimension 20 in which I was a player, but I experienced it as if I was in the fantasy world.
This took place in a world with some sort of monarchy, where there was some royal position that was like the 'Visier of Imagination'. The Visier of Imagination was basically an urban planner who used a magic item (I'm thinking they were iron boots) to make their imagination manifest. This position was elected based on a democratic art contest, in which the medium was a giant mosaic carved from wood.
It was well known that humans could not wear the boots of imagination, as their imaginations were not strong enough. I was playing a young human urchin who, as established in my backstory, had once broken into the castle and put on the boots, which had led to an explosion of chaos magic. This was explained to me (my character) at the time as the boots manifesting their repulsion for humans.
I entered the art competition with a complex depiction of the fall of the kingdom (it sort of looked like Guernica except carved out of wood and with no overlapping lines). The kingdom was shocked that not only was it carved by a human (who notoriously lack imagination), but the disgraced urchin who had committed treason.
It was revealed that actually the reason the boots are never worn by humans is that humans have too MUCH imagination, not too little, and that narrative had been a conspiracy to keep humans out of government. I was elected the Visier of Imagination, with the expectation being that I would lead the kingdom away from the ruin I had predicted, but that was the end of the episode.
The gimmick on this season of dimension 20 was that the whole thing was a sung-through musical, so imagine me and Brennan Lee Mulligan singing this whole thing.
