I loved reading the most disturbing shit when I was younger. not out of morbid curiosity, but more because it's something that is so different from the stuff they made us read in school that it fascinated me. I still read that stuff now but not more mainstream things like my man Stephen King and his murder plot books.
some of the most disturbing stories I read include two books that were once Wattpad stories but later got published.
one was about a billionaire man (or teenager) that kidnapped a young woman (or girl idk) and she found out that they were cannibals. the guy in the family who kidnapped her didn't want her to be eaten. he wanted to groom her into being his wife. I will never forget such detail the author put into describing the taste of human flesh...
another one was about these girls who were kidnapped and locked in a man's basement for years. they were each given names of flowers and the man would do [redacted] to them. I think this was based off a true story. I re-read it a couple times, I was obsessed.
another one was about a man who made 2 children into puppets..im not elaborating more. crazy shit.
I used to be into paranormal stories alot more but I somehow grew out of it. I think it's because I became more prone to nightmares in high school.
books were a source of comfort before i had friends. I remember reading during lunch in summer school cuz the theatre kids were so annoying and i couldn't be friends with them.
I don't agree with banning books in schools (unless it's an instruction manual on how to build a bomb and become a neo-nazi.) like yes I read books with horrid themes but I'm totally normal and not a cannibal or kidnapper so no problem. I dont think im desensitized to things like that? i just think that it doesnt deeply disturb me when i hear about cannibalism irl. Im not one of those kids who watch real videos of gore or things like that. fatherless behavior imo.
