i've gotten randomly interested in crop circles after seeing a table covered in books about them at a car boot sale a couple weeks ago. also, i live near like a billion of them. here are some thoughts i have that i wanted to quickly organise because i can't keep thinking about crop circles without writing stuff down
arecibo message and the following crop circle "response":
in 1974 a radio message was devised by a research team and broadcasted by the arecibo telescope. this is what it looked like, and it essentially described the numbers 1-10, early atomic numbers in basic elements, the structure of DNA, dimensions of a person, a very simple depiction of the solar system, and the telescope to which the message was broadcasted from. yeah, i didn't really interpret that either. i have no idea how aliens would be able to.
a lot of believers tend to claim that the intricacies of these formations justify the works of aliens, however i think that is a grand underestimation of the abilities of human feats. it seems far more likely that there is a community of "crop circle makers" within that general area, hence why we see few of such perfect detail outside of south-west UK (only 15% of crop circles being outside of england). the development of detail over the years are more reminiscent of a learning curve in people rather than aliens just getting better at communicating with us.
another argument believers like to bring up is that it is impossible for people to create something so intricate so quickly, as, reportedly, crop circles appear within a few hours/days which are apparently "impossible" to reproduce.
i haven't found any actual evidence of farms taking overhead images of their land to prove that these form incredibly quickly, so its hard to either prove or disprove that argument. however, considering most of these circles are made during british late spring/summer, it can be assumed that these circle makers have at least ~7 hours of night to complete these circles start to finish, assuming they are made in the same night.
the closest thing i have been able to find to a "prior" image that doesn't include planks or anything was this. though take it with a pinch of salt, this literally just looks like sunbeams being percieved by a very old digital camera:
using a pole, and a rope, the circle itself can be formed incredibly easily, and points segmenting the circle into different sections can also be quickly formed. you can literally try this with a compass, a pencil, and a a ruler in seconds. with a team of people, the points of the circle could quite simply be formed as the average diameter is only about 60m.
the crop itself is not actually burnt or destroyed - the crop is actually laid flat from a specific location of the stem, which to me is a further indicator of human influence. as you can see here, the "flattened" parts of the crop circle form a circular shape:
you can quite literally spot the point in the center of these inner circles that the artist used as a waypoint for the swirl! these are somewhat more reminiscent of the kind of patterns you would see as a result of marks made by something like a combine harvester. i'm not saying its likely for people to be sneaking combine harvesters into random farmland, however i'm using it as an example to show how manmade these crop circles look!
i mean, what are the aliens even trying to tell us with these anyway? that they're into human theories of mathematics and geometry?
18/06/23:
okay, i realised now that i forgot to talk about a couple of other important factors that believers bring up that actually do hold some credibility if true.
changes in soil composition around the area of the crop circle may indicate some influence that wasn't the result of planks and ropes. here are some changes that are apparently present in some crop circles over the past couple of decades:
changes in radiation levels around formations have also been reported around these sites, which, in my opinion, would be the most conclusive evidence we could find proving crop circles as being legitimate post-formation. however, much like all other aspects of research into the topic, its sporadic and flimsy at best.
the 1996 formation at oliver's castle as mentioned before was reported to also have elevated radiation levels, but i can't find any specific figures anywhere.
another formation with increased levels of radiation was the chualar crop circle from 2013, in california. however, yet again, research into this formation ceases to actually display any figures claiming radiation variation.

i feel if you give me a tractor and a spotter, i could make a banger crop circle in an hour. two crop circles in an hour and a half. add another half hour and i can sprinkle in some uranium and some fertilizer. honestly, i can't see this being anything other than a prank (by humans).

dont even need a tractor, just a rope and some planks

yeah but tractor

NO TRACTOR ALLOWED!!!!!!

yeah but with a tractor, i can say a tractor beam was involved. aka alien machines. and i wouldn't be lying, i would just be misunderstood.

i love how shit like the arecibo message or the pioneer plaques exist... theyre so ridiculous LMAO what alien is going to see them and understand anything other than "strange artwork"

not to mention the symbols on the golden record and the actual vinyl itself... like you're telling me these guys have a record player out there? lmfao

i would personally go for the fistbump-nay-turkey approach, but then that may have imagery of colonial expansion the the americas.

this reminds of the movie Pixels because it mentioned the arecibo message. itβs such a coincidence to come across your blog because I've been seeing a lot of news about crop circles, aliens, ufos/uaps recently, mostly on tiktok. seems there have been reports confirming their existence, and even nasa has acknowledged it. personally I think a lot of crop circles are human-made because they often appear overnight when no ones around, and Iβm pretty sure many people who created crop circles came forward and admitted to creating them.

i think news for ufo's have increased due to that weird sighting in vegas, plus that supposed CIA whistleblower. its a shame neither of them seem too plausible though, but i love the alien discussion. there's loads of nuances in crop circles that i find super interesting too, such as apparent changes in soil composition and increased levels of radiation around the area which makes this rabbithole so peculiar
