feelings retract like the landing gear
my luggage still smells of your perfume
i breathe in deeply to take in all this air
knowing the plane will smell of stale desperation
i try to calm and release my care
but you leaving made me scared
the sick taste of sharing recycled air
sit next to the window for my last view
i’ll never see your town or smell that perfume
shadows of planes upon the sandy dunes
my lungs inflate as we start to take flight
thick glass i feel sick to my core
the city lights feel like your eyes
yellows and greens still shining bright
my lungs deflating as the coast disappears
the cloudy weather and waves make me think
is this how things are supposed to be
did you love me or not even care
these people breathing this recycled air
the air tastes of broken hopes and dreams
the lady next to me asks if im alright
how do i tell her why i’m on this flight
i wished we were two different people down there
still in love with each other dear
i wouldn’t be all the way up here
we could just stand out on the pier
and just stare
these false memories why should i care
i take in a deep breath of this recycled air
i wished things were different
