So I recently got a hold of a decent CRT. Just a generic mid range Sanyo from god knows when. Can't seem to find much information about this specific model at all, which is the most interesting thing about it lol. It's the Sanyo AVM-2568C for anyone curious. It appears to be form around 2000 based on a PDF archive of some electronic repair magazine? I dunno.
It does its job alright. Has an AV input on the back with some audio output for external speakers, though the built in ones are pretty good already. I'm not an audiophile like, at all though, so.
The picture is pretty decent. Plays my Original Xbox, Wii, and even Xbox 360 pretty decently. I still wanna plug in my Dreamcast, but I'm running out of room on my coffee table for things. Might need to look for an actual media stand soon lol.
The poor thing was a little gross though. Understandable, seeing as it's an obsolete piece of technology, kinda left to collect dust in a basement before I got it. The paint on the front is worn down mostly around the power button, the once grey/silver paint being reduced to a kinda gross brown. There's also quite a few spots where the paint is just kinda gone, like it's been rubbed off entirely. Wonder if I could manage to get it repainted.
Had to wipe off a lot of grime. I didn't know black plastic could hide so much brown lol. Almost looked like I just took a wet paper towel to the soil outside. Had to get rid of a lot of little bits of paint as well. Seems like someone just went and painted the walls with no consideration for protecting this thing. The plug itself was coated as well, like they didn't even bother to unplug the thing. Horrifying, but whatever, some cleaning alcohol took most of the paint off the plug and the main body. Didn't bother doing that to the front, stuck to glass cleaner for that. Don't wanna ruin the paint that remains.
Now, there are some concerning things about this device. Mainly, on the back plastic shell, right where the tube would connect to the board I presume, there are two symmetrical points of melted plastic. I have NO idea what that's about, and I'm honestly too scared of this thing to try and find out.
The inside of it is also COATED in dust. Like, I understand that it doesn't have a lot of filtering, but my god the decades have not been kind to the poor thing lol. Oh well, an air compressor or something should take care of that.
Overall, I'm enjoying this thing. Honestly I use it a LOT more than my flatscreen lol. I dunno, just feels a lot more homey to me. I've even gotten used to the ringing. Yeah, it's still there, but it doesn't bug me as much as it did at first.
