Work No More

As a little girl, I saw my mom and dad going to work. They worked hard and had a strong work ethic. Growing up, this rubbed off on me as well.

I worked hard from the moment I became of legal age to work. My first job was as a hotel housekeeper. It was physically demanding and I wasn't the most physically fit person in the world, but I kept at it. I then got a job as a dishwasher at a restaurant, a job transporter taking special needs people to their jobs, after school assistant, a hospital housekeeper, a certified nursing assistant, and then a nurse. After I left the hospital, I became an in-home support caregiver.

Then my body started falling apart. Back problems, memory and cognitive problems, and hip dysplasia. When I had a hip replacement, I found out I had a genetic bone disease.

A month ago I became permanently disabled. NEever to work again. I like not having to work for anyone and live by their rules but working hard is in my blood and now have all this free time. I plan to work on my art, volunteer at the senior center, or do whatever I jolly-well, please.
