there are probably 5 main websites that are used anymore
twitter, google, youtube, instagram & tumblr. i remember when the internet was bustling with so many websites but it seems dead now. the websites that i loved so much years ago are either shut down or overran with corporate, minimalist nonsense that takes away any sort of individuality or charm. overtime being online has become depressing for me, ive decided to begin starting go basically anonymous, starting to cut twitter out of my life, barely even use tiktok in the first place.
how did such a widespread thing such as the world wide web somehow die at the hands of corporate nonsesnse thats meant to do what, feed billionaires pockets? (i shouldnt be surprised, but its still sad) i'm looking at how many literal children (14-) are on social media now wasting their lives to arguing with bigots and pointless discourse instead of having fun on online games, or out playing with their friends. and if they are having fun on games, theyre running the risk of being groomed or somehow still being cyberbullied.
i remember being a kid and playing animal jam, i still play it now, and its kinda sad to see that the kid audience is gone. its all people above the age of 17 & its basically dead because they refuse to update the classic version of the game.
it would make me feel better if the internet was dying in exchange for people going outside and experiencing life, but thats not happening. the internet is all being replaced by tiktok it feels. the amount of people i speak to who dont even google the info they're parroting but tell me they got it off tiktok and it turns out completely wrong is absurd to me.
maybe im just too nostalgic, or maybe im just getting too old for the internet, which shouldnt be possible because i'm not even in my 20s yet.
the internet doesnt seem fun anymore
i got a new tumblr account after being gone for about 7(?) years and rejoined the sbegtb side and its quiet, and lovely, and open there. its sad because even spacehey is overrun with drama now? i had an account here when the platform first began but lost access to it, decided to make a new one today, i check the blog section and its all.. pointless drama between kids who are too young to be worrying about all that. the fact that 13-14 year olds are worrying about online relationship drama at their young age is worrying to me. i dont think thats normal whatsoever. i got into my first long term relationship (4yr) when i was 12 but it still wasnt good for me, and it sucks to see other kids go through it bad and not know how to handle it and proceed to post it all onto here publically for everyone to see.

I am back and In agreement
though honestly we gotta stop calling social media internet
it's hardly international being owned entirely by and hyperfocused on americans, and as for networking, yea not between people and not between sites, it's not evwn computers or browsersconnecting it anymore it's mostly phones and individual apps

i definitely agree
i feel like its a matter of time before the actual internet makes a comeback because hopefully people get tired of the way it is now, its sad to me that its become this way. everything is apps now, and if it isnt already, it will be in the near future.
i think the only site at this point that hasnt fully lost its charm is neopets, but even then, last time i played half of the site was broken and half the games didnt work because they werent putting in the work to maintain it, too concerned w the metaverse etc etc.
it all just sucks so much
