nowadays it feels like people are too obsessed with being unique, or being an individual, to the point of them trying to be authentic becomes manufacutred. take crust pants for example, for the longest those were purely handmade and had so much care and time put into them, but it became a "trend", atleast temporarily, and brands began making them. its kinda an endless loop, i think everyone is trying too hard. i think the most individuality comes from when you arent trying, when you are unapologetically being yourself. when you stop caring about how others perceive you, that is when you are the most authentic, that is when you are the most unique.
how is it unique if all you do is box yourself into these aesthethics ? what does constant trend hopping do for anybody? why buy clothes then toss them when it isnt trendy anymore, why buy clothes then toss them when you feel like youre "less unique" for owning them? its like nowadays everyones an it girl or a coquette girl or a scenekid or a whateverthehell-core.. and whats up with glorpcore?? glorpcore shouldnt even be a thing?
what happened to being yourself
i hate it

everybody gets caught up in definitions and trying to fit in because theyre afraid of being "othered". The punkest guy at the punk show isn't the dude in crust pants covered in studes with liberty spikes longer than his wingspan. it's the guy still wearing his fast food uniform.
i absolutely agree and love that take

Nothing new honestly, the only thing that keeps changing is how much money companies make off of it.
