february 19th music obsessions

i’ve been listening to so much charli xcx lately. yuck has been on repeat for days. definitely not complaining. trophy, next level charli, boys, and twice are also on the playlist (if you even care). 

actually it’s been one playlist on repeat this week. charli, rebecca black’s smash hit new album, that one ice spice song (yeah it’s stuck in my head too i KNOW it’s so good omg), slut pop by kim petras, and finish him by namasenda are all notable but it’s like two hours long. the instrumentals are important on this one, they all have a similar vibe but i can’t pin it down. it’s all music that makes me feel really cool and happy but i can’t figure out why. 

with boy’s a liar obviously it’s the bubbley sound and the instrumentals and ice spice’s verse just sounds so good. they way she goes “duhduhduh” more like “thuhthuthuh” scratches my brain itch so good.

ok so finish him is such a good song you guys don’t get it. i love songs that are like hyperpop but not so overwhelming that i die (as i am known to do). the instrumentals are so bouncy and the vocals are so laura les-coded ((like: pitched up and robotic) shoutout laura les for real also) and also i really do need more songs that encourage my favorite activity (being a bitch when warranted). the melody worms it’s way into my brain. i love songs that are so produced there’s always something new to focus on every time you listen. 

also are you guys listening to een glish?? you should be. this is MY favorite unknown artist that deserves so much more. reverse gatekeeping. forcing all two of you reading this post to listen to een glish. the google translate lady has had bangers this whole time and also a compelling narrative arc about her two dogs collectively named simon and also sonic is here. it fucking rules. your een glish homework is rap game bob ross, rap game bob ross sonic, overflow, motherlode, with my dogs, and payphone. when you listen to those talk to me about your opinions and feelings PLEASE i love een glish so much you guys don’t get it they deserve so much more hype.

let it happen by tame impala is also on the playlist. it’s a song that i forget i’m listening to as i’m listening to it, this is a compliment. it feels like running down a hill on a windy day it’s like a song that was cosmically meant to be in a movie. the first time i listened to it i wasn’t sure if i liked it but i simply had to listen again because it hooked me. the bit where the whole thing changes into a different beat and the strings bit happens transforms me into a dad at a barbecue i am Forced to do the head bob. it’s not a choice it’s a lifestyle.

doin’ it right by daft punk is here too but all i can think of is redoin. if you know you know. it’s a good song on its own but redoin good LORD. 

also omg have you guys listened to chaeri - danny L harle remix??? i just found this song on a playlist i have no idea how popular it is but it’s like ingrained in my at this point i love love love hyperpop i love the breathy pitched up vocals i love the twinkly sounding synth (i think that’s what it is) i love the beat it makes me think of sophie (my BELOVED) something about hyperpop. it’s a great song. i wish i knew how to articulate why.

unlock it by charli xcx and kim petras is here but i always skip past that one guy’s verse i’m sure he’s fine but this song is for the girls i’m SORRY. it feels like a crime to listen to it and not pay attention to the instrumentals they make me feel like a cybernetic fairy. technically i am a cyborg if we want to get into it so this music is For Me. sorry if you’re hearing you just don’t get it like i get it. i’m being a little facetious (as always) but like i genuinely think this might be part of why i like music so much. some of y’all take sound for granted. i don’t have that option. also i’m just a really passionate person so i Have to like everything i like five thousand percent harder than everyone else does.
