Weekly Recommendations (music, film, literature)

Hey person reading this blog entry!! glad you're here to check out my weekly recommendations! First of all, I've never done this before, but am excited to start.

Here's stuff that has recently caught my attention:

1. MUSIC - 'Black Holes and Revelations', by Muse. As a huge radiohead fan, I was starting to get bored of always listening to the same albums. Early Muse is a great alternative. They sound like radiohead, but gave this pre-conceived style their own twist. Specially in Black Holes and Revelations. It's a great experience from start to finish.

2. FILM - 'Creep' and 'Creep II'. It's a found footage thriller. I know it might seem like there's no where else to explore in that subgenre, but the Creep series is so charismatic and engaging that it becomes impossible not to care about the story and the characters. Furthermore, as a big movie nerd myself, I find it inspiring to see such a small production and be able to indentify the artist's passion in making movies. Most of the cast also works in the production, technically or creatively.

3. LITERATURE - 'Catch-22', by Joseph Heller. I can't express how much I loved this book. It might be a hit or miss type of experience, but I certainly think it's worth a try. An anti-war comedic romance follows a squad during WW2. It might not seem so appealing, but all the characters and situations they put themselves in are so absurd and certainly hilarious. Heller's sense of humor is on point. It doesn't really contain jokes, like some other comedies. What I really liked is how naturally (even though absurd) the story flows and the comedy is presented. One important aspect of the book is it's nonlinear narrative. At first it might seem confusing, but you get used to it by the end.
