Now, that isn't to say that I dislike them. I like receiving a genuine, thoughtful trinket out of kindness. How sweet and thoughtful, that's lovely, but I am not a person that expects gifts. I'm a person that loves to give and loves to please people. It's a blessing and a curse. He doesn't believe me when I tell him I don't care about getting anything.
Well this year for Valentine's Day, he insists I at least pick out something, or at least buy myself something on his behalf... but I don't really want to. I don't want anything like that, and I wish he'd believe me -- says he doesn't believe me because "women always say they don't care". I really, actually do not care. Not because "ew holidays" and "ew valentine's day"... I just don't see material things as a big deal. Yeah, I like cute things, but things break and fade and get lost.
Should I do it just to appease him? I don't want him to feel like a bad boyfriend for not getting me anything (he's mentioned he'd feel sorta shitty). Legit I would happy with some sweet words and the look on his face when he sees what I got him!
For anyone wondering, he didn't get me anything simply because it snuck up on us and he's been super, super busy with work related stuff. I wanted to focus on him more also, so it's genuinely a non-issue. He's the best partner I could ever ask for and he works way too hard to feel pressured into things.
For Valentine's Day, I got my boyfriend a My Arcade Pocket Player with two games on it: Bubble Bobble and Rainbow Islands. I got him this, because Bubble Bobble is something we love doing together. We pass a controller back and forth playing on a low quality emulator and it's the most amazing time we have together. It's a small thing we do that makes us truly happy! So I got it for him to take with him to work for the longer wait stretches and slower shifts. I know he's going to absolutely love it! THAT is what I'm excited for!
