I think to deny the power of tiktok would be insane, but not all things powerful and new are necessarily good or even needed.
I think Tiktok specifically fulfills the gap of loneliness for me. My FYP is curated to show me only people who I would get along with and in time they begin to fuse into the presence of a friend. I usually want to be on tiktok because I don't want to miss out out the fun, as if it were a party that all my friends were at.
When I don't use it, I miss it because I wanna know what people in my circle are doing.
I don't relate too much with the people who are actually around me these days, so it feels like tiktok is a friend talking me through all the relevant events happening, and they know exactly what I would care about.
Honestly I think, if they have endlessly done research- all the data input to tiktok can make a perfect AI companion for its users based on their algorithm. It's scary.
But I feel like person to person interaction is what makes us human and loneliness is crushing me every day. Tiktok is so good with empathizing with me, it speaks for me so often that it feels like a conversation. But no one is there. At the end of the day I am alone and I feel it every moment my screen is off.
It pulls me so deeply which is why I have decided to remove it from my life. I need to seek for the companionship this app has given me in real human beings or I fear that eventually the weight of my crushing loneliness will cause me to disintegrate.

I Think Tik Tok needs to be banned. Not because of some Cringey shit or whatever. Just the fact that a Social media holds the influence of millions and is not even close to being responsible with it. and even using it in their interest most of the time.
I agree with this as well, I think social media has generally gone off the deep end. I feel this way about almost everything that makes money though. Capitalism has turned so many people into grifters.
