Proximal Development and Schemas | Careienne

Hello!! It's Careienne! (Obviously, as stated in the title of the post).

This is a post I wrote but stayed in the drafts! I forgot to click the post button! #silly #hilarous #sillywoman #xD So here it is!

After pregnancy, I noticed I still carried a couple pounds. I had no issue with this, but I noticed that the limited exercise I did had an impact on my stamina with exercising. Consequently, I knew that I could not have this! I went to a gym, but of course, I had to bring my little boo boo bear. Unfortunately, the PLAIN RUDENESS and AUDACITY I faced from the employees was horrifying. They told me that my child was "too young" to go on the machines with me and tried to direct me to the play place; AS IF I would let my child run into a trap of germs!

After that, I knew I would just have to find a park with an open field. Luckily, I found one rather quickly and decided I could turn my workout into a lesson for Lakynn. I was one of the best soccer players in grade school and decided my daughter could follow my legacy. With this in mind, I began to scaffold the steps and rules of the game. At first, I just let her pick the ball up and play with it. She would push it around in the grass, throw it, etc. Once she got used to the ball, I taught her to kick it all the way to the end of the field. Over time, she got used to this and I started to introduce the orange cones for her to kick the ball around in a zig-zag pattern. After she mastered this (very QUICKLY, might I add. Quicker than that new girl SAMANTHA!), I took away the cones and asked her to do the same with control of the ball. Lakynn did an excellent zig-zag pattern. She had come very far from simply throwing the ball and I realized she had quickly entered and left the zone of proximal development. I guess I'm just that good of a coach.

As for schemas, I would say that the number of times she rolled and threw the soccer ball would be considered one. It was her real first experience with a soccer ball, so she was still trying to understand what it was and how it worked.

In the past, another schema of hers was when she was playing with her blocks. She would repetitively stack them and knock them down. It may seem like entertainment, but it was also essential for her to understand what she was really doing and her development.
