Anti-intelectuallism and younger people

I hate how normalized it is for adults to transmit anti-intellectualism to kids; to program in the brain still in development that mathematics is impossible even before that child has contact with the subject; to make studying more of an obligation than a fun hobbie;

And it disgusts me even more to see rebelling teenagers acting just like the adults they are rebelling against. You hate studying just like them. How are you any better when you still think opinion doesn't need theoretical foundations, study of the facts, to be a fucking opinion? Sorry to break it to you, but your "opinion" is not an opinion if you didn't study the facts before. And no, your own experience is not a good enough fact to be used as a base to form your opinion. Your feelings aren't a base to form opinion.

The same way adults believe anything their church says to them, you believe in anything TikTok says to you because it seems "believable". Because as they previously said something that pleases you, something that shows that they agree with you, something that puts them in the position of someone trustworthy, you automatically start to think "this seems true, I will reproduce the next time I argue with someone". If a person graduated in the subject, or a scientific article, or a book by some professional author in the field, or a survey by a public agency, don't confirm something that someone said, you will not automatically agree with them just because they said something that you liked to hear.

e.g. George from a TikTok page, who claims to have PTSD, says in a video "people should criticize people who punches the wall because punching the wall is a coping mechanism to PTSD people". What people are who are watching his video more likely to believe? That punching the wall is a coping mechanism. Although they could agree or not about criticizing, they are very likely to believe it is a coping skill. Why? Because he himself claimed to have it.

And I'm not telling you not to believe that he has this disorder.  What I am saying is not to automatically make his speech a truth just because he experiences this situation. Even if he says his psychiatrist that said that, you shouldn't believe until you go and make your own research about the topic, a good research, in books, surveys, articles, etc.

A year ago, when I was in the last year of high school, a girl spoke ill of me behind my back, saying that "she has no social life and only studies". Why it is so bad to study? Why is it portrayed as a bad thing to do in your spare time? Studying isn't only related to school stuff, but also subjects that you like. Searching about how could some makeup be bad to your skin is studying. Drawing is studying. Reading is studying. Doing something in order to get more knowledge about it is studying.

You will do no change if you keep being a dumb functional illiterate.

im sorry if this comes as just vague thoughts, english's not my first language and it´s a bit late
but i think it's also related to this dichotomy of having a social life (not studying) - being alien (studying). Like if studying is about being completely out of touch of reality, society- like it´s completely academic and has no real purpose outside school (or work), it´s seen as useless, when it's quite the opposite.

For example, here where i live *too much* or some types of knowledge or has no economic value, therefore not a lot people want or can achieve it. Going to college or even highschool is not even a viable reason to study *something* at all, your diploma can get you rejected from jobs for being "overqualified". And it's expensive too

you could argue too that the education system is totally broken: most teachers dont have the patience or talent or practice to teach, and the themes are many times not practical to many daily ocurrences, which reinforeces that dichotomy. It keeps you ignorant by negligence and imbalance

Often from what I witnessed is the anti-intellectualism is encouraged just because it removes someone from the norm. The more someone studies and knows about the world the more they are able to question things, which leads to them finding more answers which just leads to more questions.

There is a vested interest against critical thinking and exploring the world to it's fullest because it keeps someone from being an ur-consumer, from being self sufficient in any meaningful way. Like if it's left as a simple input of "This is true" and you are supposed to accept that unilaterally and you do it means they can put whatever in there.

It's also a way to stop self-actualization, there is no reason to explore, try new things, study, when all that matters is the stuff right in front of you and available. It's really depressing to see but it's something that happens and has for the most part always happened. Only way to change it is by slowly just trying to change the culture, which is already happening thankfully but there is just a high level of anti-intellectualism even among intellectual groups. Some groups spawned out of the intellectuals of the 19th and 20th century now bash studying the ideas that are the basis of their whole movement!
