im currently watching true stories, a movie directed by david byrne, and its making me think about something i think about quite often. i understand that we live in a more progressive, accepting world when it comes to queerness and stuff but i feel like in media and in expression we've gone backwards. no one is allowed to make anything weird anymore. movies are all so BORING and visually have nothing gong for them unless they're emulating a look from another decade. movies in the 70s and 80s were crazy and weird and so aesthetically queer. musicians dressed flamboyantly because they slayed not because they were some straightgay icon. music was experimental and crazy, which is being improved culturally nowadays by hyperpop to some extent, but nothing will ever be new wave again. i think things being taboo makes their expression more interesting. i'm not saying i want queer people put in jail again, but i want authentic queer expression back. i want corporations out of queerness i want the most autistic guy ever (david byrne) to be in charge i want life to be interesting again. i want the internet to die. at least trans expression is still real.
