How a Vampire and a Zombie Have Food Delivered
R.I. Polsgrove
Lucas laid on his messy bed, texting with a pervert on a dating site. “I’m getting food!” he called out to Natalie in the other room.
“Okay!” she said, coming in. The pungent smell of rose perfume and a hint of formaldehyde followed her.
He stepped in front of her and pulled her down for a kiss. He reached around and traced his finger down her spine, making her shiver. She pulled back and tucked her lavender hair behind her ears and smiled.
"After dinner, we should have some us time," Lucas said, leaning into her.
"Want me to help set up?” she asked.
“That would be great,” he replied, giving her one last quick kiss.
She giggled and went to work, spreading out large plastic tarps.
Lucas lifted the camera he always had around his neck. "Natalie! Let me see that pretty face!"
She turned to him and rested her hand on her knee, and smiled.
"You're gorgeous," he said, taking the picture.
She gave him a sheepish grin and went back to spreading out the tarp. "Thanks."
Lucas’s phone rang. “Hello?” he said in a childish voice.
“Hey man, I can’t find it,” a deep voice said.
Lucas paced with a spring in his step as he talked. “Oh...it’s the door with the graffiti. It’s like my little hangout place. Just hit the button, and I’ll buzz you in.”
"Alright. You said you had video games?" the man asked.
“Yeah,” Lucas replied.
"What kind of games?"
A mischievous glint sparked in his crimson eyes as he caught Natalie's gaze and gave her an impish grin. "Well, I have this great game where you kill zombies,” he sneered.
Natalie launched a pillow at him. He easily swatted it away and looked at her apologetically. “Love you!” he mouthed silently.
Her face broke into a wide grin, and she giggled. She couldn't be mad at Lucas when he gave her that smile.
"Okay. I can get there in like five minutes," the man said.
"Okay, great. See you then,” Lucas said, in his child-like voice, and hung up. "Food will be here in five minutes," he said, switching back to his normal voice.
"Good, I'm getting a little hungry," she said, getting up and dusting herself off.
Lucas picked up his axe leaning against the wall by his bed and twirled it, showing off a little for Natalie.
She politely applauded as the buzzer sounded.
A sadistic smirk spread across Lucas's face as he held his axe at the ready.
