2/11/2022 - Late Halloween Cookies!

Haven't been using SpaceHey as much as when I first signed up, so sorry to anyone if I haven't been as active or interacting with your blogs/posts! Just giving an update on my life for my own sake. I made some late Halloween cookies yesterday for a late Halloween movie night, they turned out pretty well! The icing isn't very good because I've never made icing by myself before, it's meant to be stitches, but I still think the cookies look really nice. I think one thing I need to work on with my cooking is improving the presentation of my dishes, so this was a fun little exercise in that.

My plants are coming along nicely, I'll post a picture next time but currently they're getting large enough that I'm probably going to have to transplant them to larger pots soon.

I've started playing The Sims 4 again recently, having a lot of fun with it. I made two characters with the idea of shipping them, but the guy kept being such a pain and ruining the relationship that I just embraced it and made them split up, now the girl has dedicated herself to a life of crime and enjoys mischief. I'd like to get some of the expansion packs but they're really expensive, and I don't really want to pirate them because I like playing games on Steam if I can, and I don't think there's a way to have pirated expansions packs with a legit Steam copy of the base game.

Something I need to work on is to more consistently write for the visual novel I want to make, I've been having fun with games (Overwatch 2!) and a few movies recently, but I haven't been setting apart the time to write, which I should be. I'd like to do it for a living, but I'm never going to get there if I take this long to write it. I started the project around 18 months ago and I haven't even finished the draft outline of the story, so I really need to pick up the pace. Does anyone have any methods they use to help themselves concentrate to be able to work on something consistently? Hope everyone is doing well!

those cookies look amazing and very tasty!!

funny that you mention the sims! It's been well over two years since I've played it and recently ive been feeling the urge to get back in. Only thing holding me back is redownloading all the cc I normally use...and a crappy laptop lol. I gotta invest in a real computer...

As for writing, this may work if you use google calendar or something similar. Set aside some chunk of time and put it in the calendar w/ reminders. Try and set it for the same days + same times every week so you can get into a routine. Adjust how many days and how long you work to suit your needs.

For example, do an hour minimum of art during the week and 3 hours minimum during the weekend.

Also helps to figure out exactly *what* you want to do on certain days. Not really sure how you'd go about this as a writer but as an artist I usually do sketchy/looser and easier stuff during the week since I'm usually tired from work and the more intense stuff friday + the weekend.

You don't want to overwork yourself or end up discouraging yourself from working so give yourself just enough time to relax and not work!

Yeah I think I just need to commit to the calendar more, I use it to schedule everything else in my life so there's no reason why I shouldn't. I always put in times for the next few upcoming weeks, then end up not keeping up with penciling in more dates, so I do well for a few weeks then fall off. I just gotta try to keep up the momentum

I've thought about maybe trying to do a word count goal instead of scheduling time, because if I procrastinate the whole time that I'm supposed to be writing then I pretty much get no work done. Maybe the best of both worlds could work, I might try scheduling a specific time where I need to write a certain amount of words, that way I have the motivation to get started as well as the commitment to actually get something substantial done

it's hard to keep up with schedule stuff for sure. too easy to fall out of practice w/ it, etc. but it's rewarding in the end :3

thats a good idea! yeah i wasn't sure exactly how youd do it for writing but that sounds perfecto!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
