Promotion or Grifting?

Recently in a bid to try and build some more of a foundation to my audience on Spotify and YouTube (2 platforms with good discoverability) I have come across a few snakes in the grass so to speak.

Their main thing seems to be inviting me to livestreams where they wish to play my music on their streams to a built in audience. As a streamer this gives content for their viewer base and for the streamer in question to react to or critique.

Almost every single time I get to the point of catching the start of their stream and seeing the set up before nopeing out entirely.

For 1 thing: If you have invited me saying how you "want" to play my music for your audience, then I should not have to buy into some "marketing package" via your website just to submit a song.

Secondly: Despite your claims of catering to all genres of music, I am not going to see much if any benefit from my Thrash metal song being wedged somewhere in between a 2+ hour stream of Hip Hop and subgenres of Hip Hop. So why even ask?

It appears to be entirely a grift especially where no details are given until you have followed their accounts, subscribed/followed to their streaming account (as to appear in chat you need to subscribe) and you are told that to increase likelihood of your music being played you must be active in chat as "Encouraged" by the channel mods.

One such outlet I came across even had the audacity to have price points to skip songs, so even if you've paid to have your song there, someone else could simply pay to skip right over your song making any investment moot.

If you are a musician and have any self respect please take some time to analyse these promotion services before signing onto or buying anything. They appear to be using your work and financial investment to provide you with the same "blue print" and "contact list" you can get from more reputable marketers or even some free services. On top of that the playlists they often boast about having 13k+ followers appear to get little to no actual listenership, meaning it looks like the follower count comes from hopeful musicians who are encouraged to follow the playlist after submission of music or even automatically done so via bootstrapping from the submission site.

What I hope to do in the new year is get back onto streaming properly and including music from various artists who are looking to get a little exposure. And my only requests from them would be to whitelist my twitch channel, and YouTube VOD channel from any content ID services so I can post the work without risking any form of strike.

If you would like to help me on my way to a stronger foundation please consider following/subscribing to me on the platforms you use.

I hope you all have a great time, and I hope you enjoy the work I do.
