Unfortunately, I don't have a long essay for this (pity), but it's resonating strongly. So I wanted to share it, but not with friends who know me, with strangers who don't. And since I deleted Twitter because I don't like Elon Musk, here we are!
Agnetha, I feel you girl!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_r19YpNJe80&ab_channel=ABBA-TopicOk, sorry, there will be a short essay...
This is a little known song written by the beautiful, gorgeous, wonderful Agnetha! Björn wrote The Winner Takes it All, Agnetha wrote I'm Still Alive. Make of that what you will. It was never recorded in a studio, but perhaps the raw, live version is how it is meant to be. It doesn't feel like an ABBA song, which makes perfect sense, as it's an Agnetha song. The lyrics are also simple and raw, and I think they hold just as much weight as any Björn lyric. Musically, I wish a studio recording did exist to pick apart the instruments and the backing vocals! I'm a Benny fan, I like intricacy, and clever mixing, and layers! Which I think is something we don't get with the live performance, but potentially would in a studio. That's my bias though. I do like the longer instrumental at the end! And I am hearing more of her Wrap Your Arms Around Me album coming through in what instrumental music I can hear, which I do like! Because nothing exists in a vacuum, so finding little links and historical depth always interests me.
