Short rant here.
I am, to the surprise of no one, a pretentious asshole when it comes to art. I'm not like, one of those infamous art snobs but I have definitely adopted some form of snobbery. Anyway, here is my small rant of the hour:
I hate modern pop art. I mean, I guess that's what it is, right? For example, there are people who literally just paint pictures of Patrick Star ("Spongebob Squarepants") exactly as he is presented in the show. It's literally just a redraw of a single frame of the show without a single ounce of artistic flare. I love seeing redraws of cartoon frames when the artist adds themselves to the piece. There was a redraw challenge on Twitter a while ago where artists would draw a single frame of Usagi ("Sailor Moon") and it was so cool to see the same frame reimagined! I loved it! But the same cannot be said about these exact copy paintings/drawings.
I don't think that these copy artists aren't talented. Not at all. But I don't think they're stand out creatives. It's sort of the same way I feel about artists who just redraw le funni memes. I don't like it. It's sucking away originality for the price of "likes." It's kind of irritating to me, the most grandiose of asses involved in art.Β
I see some of the most creative, talented artists get snubbed in favor of, "Oh EHm GEE i know dat meme LOLZ it iz now in painting form!!!"
Thanks for reading my shitty rant about my shitty opinion.
