y'know nostalgia and stuff

The nature of nostalgia is something that interests me greatly. I mean, that's obviously why I'm here. MySpace was hot shit when I was in middle school and though I never had an account, just looking at spacehey reminds me of that past. And posting on here makes it feel like I got to be part of it finally.

My nostalgia obsession center around the late 90s to mid-late 2000s, which were kinda the worst years of my life. Super unhinged dark times, suffering from bad parenting yadda yadda. You know. Some people theorize, and there is a wonderful video essay on the webcore aesthetic that proposes this as well, that this is reclamation. A chance to imagine the stable comforting accepting childhood that never was.

But also nostalgia can be a consuming grief or worse, used to peddle conservative bullshit.

This is all stuff I've heard from other people but sometimes I gotta sit and mull as I wait for the VHS tape transfer to finish. It's like so much of my life is dedicated to preserving the past or dreaming about having a better 2003 or whatever.

I wish I was less sad and sentimental about the passage of time. I think it would be healthier. I feel like everything's going too fast and I'll be on my deathbed someday thinking "wasn't it just 2010??"
