Rescue Rangers

So following the Sonic 2 review I thought I'd put my thoughts out there on the recent Rescue Rangers Movie.

First things first, I was kinda lukewarm going into it. I felt like it was going to rely too much on modern comedy which often seems to leave me cold but to my surprise this film really did hit it out of the park.

A quick synopsis:

"Chip and Dale live amongst cartoons and humans in modern day Los Angeles, but their lives are quite different now. When a former cast mate mysteriously disappears, Chip and Dale must repair their broken friendship and save their friend." ~ IMDB

Thoughts:

In short I really enjoyed this film. It has a very "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" feel to it, and is basically a spiritual successor to the film.
Littered with hundreds of cameos from all over the place, ranging from Disney staple characters to some less obvious ones.

I love the references to modern Hollywood culture in how reboots and long overdue sequels are being thrown around, as well as convention culture for celebrities who've not had any recent work.

I really enjoyed the argumentative character play between Chip and Dale as actors instead of the Rescue Rangers from the show. There are some great call backs to specific episodes from the show (I went back and checked that they were those episodes... They were.) and even some smaller jokes around the nature of cartoons living and working in the real world.

The "Uncanny Valley" was also ripped on in this film, you may have seen one of the characters in the trailer. Well he has many good scenes that play on that era of CGI movies in a way that felt like although they were low hanging fruit for jokes, they worked so well in this "meta" concept for a film.

And finally I'd like to give a shoutout to how inspired a decision to use the original Sonic design for the Sonic the hedgehog movie. You know, that Ugly strangely lanky design that was in the very first movie trailer.

They made him a proper character in his own right, and poked fun at his design throughout his parts in the film. I actually enjoyed every scene he is in, presumably in the way that was intended.
