I finally went to see Sonic 2 with the wife the other day.ย
It was such a good film, highly entertaining in all the ways I want from a Sonic movie. I love the way they kept aspects from Sonic 3 & Knuckles on the Megadrive as it's driving force of the game.ย
There were some noticeable bits where the CG was not quite on form, but not so much so that it ruined my enjoyment of the film.
There was also once again so many nods/references to the history of Sonic within the film. Some key points here are the inclusion of the original 16bit Green hill zone theme as Donut Lord's ring tone, Labryinth Zone getting an on screen makeover, Ice Cap zone snowboarding being a thing to name a few.
Knuckles is also brilliantly characterised as being direct, to the point, and inexperienced with the wider world. His dialogue is perfect for the variation on him they've made.ย
The finale was also very well done - Could have so easily fallen into the Galactus/Paralax problem of making a giant antagonist a giant cloud of evil. But thankfully they didn't, using the cloud of evil to simply showcase the transformation leading to the awesome reveal of what Sonic and co will be fighting.

There is a stinger, so stick around for that if you've not seen it yet. It certainly made me interested to see where they go with this.
I will be getting this on Bluray once it comes out, and it made me go back and play a bunch of Megadrive Sonic titles, as well as finally properly going through the Adventure series.

He has mentioned that he'd come back if he found the script interesting enough :D

I canโt agree more! I think my one complaint about this movie was the human characters (besides eggman) were just a little boring. Definitely did not make the movie bad, though! Felt like a kid again watching it!
I dunno, I thought donut lord's sister in law was funnier in this one that the first, parodying action movie tropes with the psychotic girlfriend stereotype all rolled together.
I do think that donut lord and his wife were under used though.
But yeah, I was sat in the cinema feeling like a kid all over again. I love it so much.

I haven't seen it yet but from what my kids have told me it seems like a pretty good movie.
