I'm realizing Spacehey still has that dopamine addiction thing going on like all other social media.

Perhaps to a lesser extent but I still find myself awaiting responses and recognition from friends on here regarding my posts. Then when I get a response I get a superficial boost. It's more actual conversation based rather than touch and go likes but still. If I don't get a response I tend to wonder why am I doing this if I'm just talking to myself. It's about communication but when I speak in my native language no one understands. It would be nice to meet at least one other Lyrian whether online or in person.

i would say judos is the equivalent to a like button however unlike other social media you are not informed when you receive kudos social media in of itself has an addictive nature baked into it as the pourpose is to communicate with other people see whats up in friends lives and share what going on in yours kinda like catching up with a friend ya know except the conversation doesn't happen in real time or it kinda does but doesn't when you say something you don't get an immediate response (this kinda reminds me of that (ghost reply bulletin i posted a couple months back) so you leave your comment leave for a bit and come back to see what the response is thats where the addiction is it's similar to how a phone addiction was developed before smart phones where a thing you'd send a text and then anticipate a response so check your phone constantly alternatively you may check it constantly looking for someone reaching out to you and boom now you have a habit of constantly checking your phone (it's still how it works today just less so on text since social media is on your phone too) social media is this concept on steroids there has never been such a thing as a social media that isn't addictive that being said the addiction thing isen't why i'm on spacehey if it was i probably would have left all other social media long ago

I think what it comes down to is that I feel that I'm lacking something in my life but I'm trying to resolve that.

As you've mentioned before, at least this place doesn't give you the option to click a 'like' button, and encourages folk to be more interactive. I can't see anything wrong with looking forward to correspondence regarding posts - no different to back in the day when we'd looked forward to receiving a physical letter (snail mail)
Sometimes when there are no responses, it just means nothing more can be added to the subject. I used to post lots of stuff on Facebook, and it was like a Ghost town! so that could be a lonely experience.
I'm enjoying the change from that site actually.

Interesting comparison with the snail mail. Yes this place is much easier on my mental health than Facebook. A lot of the issue stems from loneliness and lack of in person friendship.

Snail mail, just meaning it would take 2/3 days here to receive a letter, whereas we're spoiled now with the instant electronic technology :)

it's lyrian...

by andrew covell; ; Report

Yes Lyrian. It's still English sometimes but it may come off as enigmatic or indecipherable absurdity. However I feel at home and happy when I speak that way.
